🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - EVERY CHILD MATTERS 🧡
September 30, 2026
Today, (and every day after) Tributes to Dionysus honours the Survivors of residential schools, the children who never returned home, their families, and Indigenous communities across Turtle Island (Canada).
As an organization built around community, education, and connection, we believe acknowledgement must be accompanied by a willingness to learn.
Reconciliation is ongoing work: listening to Indigenous voices, understanding the histories and ongoing impacts of colonialism, recognizing the lands and communities that make our gatherings possible. Specifically we must support Indigenous leadership, culture, and resurgence.
Much of our community gathers in two places:
In amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton), Treaty 6 Territory, on the lands of the nêhiyaw (Cree), Dene, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, and Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) peoples. Edmonton is also a Métis homeland and home to a diverse Inuit community.
In Moh’kinstsis (Calgary), Treaty 7 Territory, on the lands of the Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Tsuut’ina, and Îethka Stoney Nakoda peoples, including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney Nations. We also recognize the historic Northwest Métis and Otipemisiwak Métis Government, including the Nose Hill and Elbow Métis Districts.
We are grateful to gather, teach, learn, celebrate, and build community on these lands.
We recognize that gratitude alone is not reconciliation. The impacts of residential schools, displacement, forced assimilation, and colonial systems continue today.
Our responsibility is not limited to September 30; it includes continuing to learn, examining how we build community, making space for Indigenous voices, and supporting Indigenous people and organizations throughout the year.
Today, we remember those who were taken, honour Survivors and their families, and continue listening and learning.
