For me working with colours I’m inspired by is essential for making something that’s both enjoyable to make and that I love. Which is why I quit taking custom orders - I had too many clients that requested colour combos that didn’t speak to me and I was never satisfied with the end result. But when I have beautiful colours and fibres to work with such as in this weave it excites me so much! I made this weaving over 2 years ago and it still remains a favourite.

I have been working on this big weaving for the past few weeks and I’m finally finished. It’s such a good feeling to work so hard and long on something and when it’s complete it’s exactly as amazing as you hoped it would be! Lots of my weaving students ask what they need to do to make their work look professional enough to sell. One of the main things I tell them is to buy quality yarn! This weaving uses yarn from my favourite yarn shop . She inspired me to learn to spin and dye. And even though I’m not even a fraction as good as Amanda I have really come to love those art forms as well.

My beautiful cousin got married a few weeks ago (my kids are still talking about the funnest wedding ever) and imagine my surprise when I saw that it was in front of my macrame backdrop! I made it 3 years ago for another cousins wedding then sold it to a wedding decorator. I’m not sure exactly what it is about this weave but I’m obsessed with it. Maybe it was because I made it at a time I really needed to process some thoughts and the repetitive nature of weaving allowed me to do something while I sat and pondered life. Or maybe it’s just because that olive colour is one of my favourites 🤷‍♀️. Either way it’s a good one. And it’s listed in my Etsy shop so it can be all yours if you’d like!

Just wanted to let everyone know about my two upcoming workshops in September! The first one is at yarn twisters on September 13. It’s such a fun atmosphere for a workshop and always a good time teaching there. The second one will be done at the Etsy Calgary Market September 28. So you can shop local makers then come to the workshop and leave with your own wall hanging! Links for each in the comments.

I’ve come a long way in both skill and style since I made this little weaving. This one was made for one of those people who when I was first starting out believed in me more than I did. After only just meeting she asked me to make my first custom weave. Then overpaid my asking price. Then a few months later she asked me to make 10 more pieces for her to give to all her friends for Christmas. I’m not sure where I’d be today in my weaving journey without her support and encouragement! So thanks girl for being my number 1 fan!

An overcast rainy morning left me with some moody light to photograph with. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! We’ve already done everything on our summer bucket list (except the lemonade stand which I am putting off for as long as possible) so if anyone has anything I need to do In the next few weeks let me know!
