Prismatic Voices Open Mic

Prismatic Voices Open Mic The Prismatic Voices Open Mic is an event centered around uplifting the voices of LGBTQ2S+ youth from ages 15-25, through an open mic and feature performances!

Come show us your rainbow! Prismatic Voices is an open mic event aiming to showcase the unique voices of youth who are part of the LGBTQ2S+ community. Shout out your best words to a welcoming crowd, meet like-minded individuals, and experience the incredible craft of our monthly feature poet, all at this event which aims above all to give you the opportunity to truly be you! Though the performance

portion of this event is intended primarily for LGBTQ2S+ youth, all are welcome as spectators and/or supporters. We welcome all performers who are part of the LGBTQ2S+ community, and who are between ages 15-25. However, all are welcome as spectators and supporters, so feel free to come by even if you don't fit that demographic! Tickets to Prismatic Voices are free, but you also have the option of donating via our Ko-fi page (https://ko-fi.com/prismaticvoices) or in cash at the door. This helps us pay our feature performers, who we seek out for every event - and by the way, if you're interested in featuring for a 15-20 minute set, feel free to get in touch! Prismatic Voices is currently in the "raising awareness" phase, as we'd really like to start our event in person, but want to pay mind to safety. However, feel free to like this page for further updates about the event and for a great community experience!

Mondays can be a pretty big drag, but not this one! Come check out our open mic event! Owl's Nest Books is hosting the event digitally, starting at 7pm. Come listen to some young talent in the city, including our feature poet, Rhaeannon Gerritsen (YouTube: Rhae Sunshine)--a fourth year English major at MRU. They have been performing for a long time and consider themselves to be gender-non-conforming. So happy to have them represent us for our first event :)

If you are interested in performing, or are interested in just attending, please fill out this short form to let us know you are coming and get the zoom link

Happy Transgender Day of Visibility from Prismatic Voices to all our trans friends!! Today we wanted to celebrate the grand rainbow that is the gender spectrum by sharing a poem from a wonderful trans poet, Spillious, who we here at Prismatic Voices definitely think you should go show your support to! (And, psst - they’re originally from here in Alberta!)

Spillious placed 1st on April 24th 2017 at the Vancouver Poetry Slam Team Finals. This is Spillious' poem Hide and Seek

Attention, Prismatic Poets! Have you heard that we’re officially having our first event on April 19th, hosted by the lovely Owl's Nest Books? Feel free to contact us here via Messenger or e-mail us at [email protected] if you’re interested in performing this month, or even later on! Don’t worry - even if we don’t choose you as our feature this time around, there will be plenty of events in the future where you’ll have a chance to show your stuff!
