It sounds backward, but one of the fastest ways to learn a new song is to practice it slowly.

Singing slowly allows you to:

🎵 Learn notes accurately
🎵 Build confidence
🎵 Avoid mistakes becoming habits
🎵 Strengthen muscle memory

Once the notes feel comfortable, the speed will come naturally.

One of the highlights of every Stampede City Mixed Chorus rehearsal is our quartet performances. Throughout the evening, one or more quartets take the stage to share a song or two, bringing energy, entertainment, and inspiration to the evening.

Here is G.O.L.D. singing "Give me a barbershop song".

For newer singers, these performances provide an opportunity to hear the exciting sound of four-part barbershop harmony in a smaller ensemble setting. For our experienced members, it's a chance to enjoy great music, support fellow singers, and celebrate the art of quartet singing.

Quartets are an important part of the barbershop tradition. They showcase teamwork, musicality, and the ringing chords that make barbershop harmony so unique. Whether the song is heartfelt, humorous, or upbeat, our quartets always add an extra spark of fun to the evening.

Learning new songs can be a little daunting at first, but it is amazing how well you can progress at a slow and steady pace.

Here are some tips to help you along the way.

1. Learn lyrics in small sections rather than entire songs.
2. Practice recalling lyrics without looking at the music.
3. Associate words with emotions, character, or stage movement.
4. Listen to learning tracks frequently between rehearsals.
5. Review material briefly but consistently over many days rather than in one long session.
6. Sing with others whenever possible—social learning strengthens memory.

A Taste of four part harmony aca****la singing in the Barbershop Style!

One of the highlights of our first rehearsal back on Wednesday August 26th, was giving our new singers a chance to hear what barbershop harmony sounds like when all four parts come together.

Members who have been singing with Stampede City Mixed Chorus for a year or more stepped forward to perform a couple of songs and share a glimpse of what lies ahead on this musical journey.

We sang **"You've Got a Friend"** and **"King of the Road,"** and it was wonderful to see the smiles, laughter, and excitement around the room. More than just entertaining our guests, these songs demonstrated the rich harmonies, ringing chords, and camaraderie that make barbershop singing so special.

For our new members, it was an opportunity to hear what can be achieved through practice, teamwork, and a shared love of music. For our returning singers, it was a chance to celebrate the joy that comes from making music together.

The best part? Every experienced singer in the room started exactly where our newest members are today. With a little time, encouragement, and a lot of fun, they'll soon be creating those same harmonies themselves.

Thank you to everyone who helped welcome our new singers and show them what Stampede City Mixed Chorus is all about—friendship, laughter, community, and great four-part a ca****la harmony.

A few of our long term members were still on vacation and we look forward to seeing them over the next few weeks.
