Join us Tuesday, August 18, 2026 (Discussion 7:00 PM | Open Mic 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM) for the final installment of our Summer School series with our very own Troy Kokol, who will be walking us through the last chapter of the exercise we started back in May.

If you missed the previous sessions, no worries! We’ll do a quick review, dive into the nuts and bolts of piecing our songwriting building blocks together, and go over polishing those rough edges. We’ll also talk about how to continue incorporating a word cloud and related phrases into your song to craft something relatable and memorable. Whether you’re continuing your project or starting fresh, come be a part of this free learning session. See you there!

Homework (optional):

In June, Troy got us building lines and phrases based on a single word or phrase, alongside the cadence and melody we created. So, for Summer School’s final class:

Take your ONE descriptive word or phrase (like our “earthquake”) and build out your chorus to solidify your message.

Once you’ve established the foundation of your song, start strategizing the remainder of the track—and be sure to add DETAILS using the word cloud you’ve created!

We are thrilled to welcome back our very own Troy Kokol, who will be taking us to the next level following our prep work back in May.

If you missed the May session, don’t sweat it at all! We’ll be diving into the absolute essentials of building a powerful verse around a central idea, and how to evolve that verse into something truly memorable and compelling. Whether you’re continuing your project or starting fresh, you belong in this room. See you there!

Homework (optional):
In May, Troy talked to us about distilling a song idea into one descriptive word or phrase (our example song started off as a song about divorce, but we distilled it down to the single word “earthquake”).

So, for Summer School PT1:
1) Take a song/song idea and distill it down into ONE descriptive word or phrase (like our “earthquake”)
2) Take your word or phrase and develop a ‘word cloud’ with every related word you can think of that will point back to it (HINT - If you can’t find more than 10 words, you might have to start over and try again). See you on the 21st...☀️
