A young autistic boy who is non-verbal named Parker has now been missing in Calgary for 8 days. As an autistic person, I am shocked that Amber alert legislation does not allow for children with special needs who go missing to be found using the Amber alert system. Had that been the case, Parker likely would have been found early. On Monday, we will be closing our Calgary location early and having our team members take part in the search for Parker. He deserved better from the Calgary Police Service, and the Alberta Government. We hope he is returned home safely to his family. If you would like to join our Calgary team on Monday (provided there are no changes before then) please email [email protected] and we will let you know how you can join.
This story hits close to home for me as an autistic person and I can only say that Parker deserves to be home with his family.
