Spike’s birthday month is over, but here’s something in keeping with the theme.

Drawing #1 is Roland’s rough drawing.

#2 is my cleanup drawing.
Roland and I both worked as Assistant Animators quite a bit while we worked at Disney. Assistant Animators do exactly what I did with the second drawing; we’d take the Animators’ rough drawings and put a finished line on them. The goal of the Assistant was to put a nice, clean line on the drawing, but do it without losing the “life” in the Animators’ work.

In the third photo, Roland used his computer to colour the drawing.

In the fourth photo I coloured it using coloured pencils, then made it into a birthday greeting on my iPad.

#5 is a variation on the birthday “hunch” that Roland did entirely with his computer.
