FROM ANIMALS TO THE PEOPLE: LETS TALK ABOUT THE INHABITANTS OF THE OKAVANGO DELTA (THE PEOPLE)โค๏ธ
There are three main tribes who traditionally live in the Okavango Delta, the Hambukushu (my tribe), Bayei and the Banoka. Fact sheet history= in the eighteenth century the Hambukushu were forced out of their lands around the Zambezi and moved to the Chobe region. They built their homes along the Chobe river, fortunately the Balozi in that area invaded them again and fleed the area towards the delta again, this is because chief Ngombela of Balozi was expanding his empire and every tribes he conquered had to pay him tribute. My tribe finally had to flee along the Chobe and Lenyanti river. Right there the Hambukushu came into conflict with the Bayei and forced the Bayei deep into the delta, after that the Balozi followed my tribe again ๐๐๐, and forced the Hambukushu to move deep into the delta to with their cattle though they defeated the Balozi on this second raid... By 1800 the Hambukushu were well established in the delta and had to coexist to an extend with the Bayei, and Bayei are my friends and they are so amazing ๐ฅฐ... The Bayei were very experienced fisherman who fished in the shallow waters of the delta even hunted big game like hippos with methods like chiera (will explain in the future). Hunting and gathering was also practiced by the Bayei.
๐๐๐CHECK THIS OUT ๐the Hambukushu were well known for their slave trade, they raided small villages to obtain people and sell them to the Arab traders...
