From a rural space & ambience, the economic crises with the just hiked fuel ⛽️ & food 🍱 supplies prices, I felt compelled to share what has been my approach to getting-by on days like these:
MINI BACKYARD & CONTAINER GARDENING
Small beginnings. Big harvests. 🌱
You don’t need a big farm to grow your own food — your backyard/frontyard, veranda, balcony, or even a few containers can be enough to get started.
🌿 Start small
Don’t overwhelm yourself. Begin with 2–3 easy crops like spinach🥬, peppers🌶️ 🫑, tomatoes🍅or herbs🪴 . Learn as you grow.
🪴 Use what you have
Old buckets, tins, crates, or tyres can all become planting containers. Just make sure they have drainage holes.
🌞 Follow the sun
Most vegetables need at least 5–7 hours of sunlight daily. Observe your space and place your plants where they’ll thrive.
💧 Water wisely
Keep the soil moist, not soaked. Early mornings or late afternoons are best for watering.
🌱 Good soil = healthy plants
Mix your soil with compost or organic matter to give your plants the nutrients they need.
♻️ Reuse & recycle
Kitchen scraps like eggshells and vegetable peels can be turned into natural fertilizer.
🌼 Be patient
Gardening teaches consistency and care. Some days will be slow, but growth is always happening beneath the surface.
Remember — it’s not about perfection, it’s about progress.
Start where you are, use what you have, and grow something beautiful.
