The Bhutan Film Institute (BFI) has initiated its pilot School Film Literacy and Creative Industry Awareness Program, commencing on 6 May 2026 at Shaba Higher Secondary School with the screening of the film Butterfly Bhutan.

The program continued on 7 May at Motithang Higher Secondary School with The Bridge, on 9 May at Dr. Togyal School with Phama, and on 14 May at Motithang Higher Secondary School with Setara.
This program is held in collaboration with with Samuh as a implementating partner Supported by the Australian Government’s Direct Aid Program and institutionally backed by the Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority, this initiative is designed to introduce students to the artistic, cultural, and economic potential of Bhutan’s emerging creative industry.

In a significant step toward fostering film literacy in schools and enhancing awareness of Bhutan’s creative industry as a viable educational and professional pathway, the Bhutan Film Institute (BFI) officially launched the Pilot School Film Literacy & Creative Industry Awareness Program today, with Samuh Mediatech serving as the implementing partner.

Supported by the Australian Government’s Direct Aid Program and backed institutionally by the Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority (BICMA), this initiative represents a strategic effort to introduce students to the artistic, cultural, and economic potential of Bhutan’s evolving creative sector.

The program has been carefully structured as a pilot phase to assess its effectiveness, impact, and scalability within the school education system. Key insights and outcomes from this initial implementation will be instrumental in refining, strengthening, and shaping the future development of the program model.

During its pilot stage, the initiative will be rolled out across seven schools in Thimphu and Paro, targeting students from Classes 8 to 12. With a long-term vision of integrating film literacy into Bhutan’s broader educational framework, the program is expected to expand to additional schools nationwide in the future.
