🌿 Good Evening Devotion
*Topic: What Shall I Render to Jehovah?*
The scripture says, “What shall I return to the Lord for all His goodness to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.” — Psalm 116:12–13
_This was David’s cry._
So my question today is—what is your cry?
What are you lifting up to the Father?
What are you calling Him for?
The definition of the word render, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, means to give back, to provide, or to offer in return. In the Hebrew sense, it carries the meaning to repay or restore what is due.
Our God has had, has, and continues to pour into us the 3 H’s—His Help, His Healing, and His Hope.
*So the question is…* What are you giving back to Him?
After all His goodness, His mercy, and His grace—
after everything He has brought you through…
*What are you rendering to Jehovah?*
Is it just words… or is it your life?
Is it convenience… or is it surrender?
Sitting and reflecting, I honestly love David because he was a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22), but he knew he had struggles.
*What was David’s struggle?*
Lust
Pride
Fear
Disobedience at times
Family issues
However, like Paul said in the Word:
“But to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited.” — 2 Corinthians 12:7
Paul is showing us that even though God revealed great things to him, he still had a thorn—something uncomfortable, something that humbled him, something he had to carry.
That thorn didn’t mean God left him.
That thorn didn’t mean he wasn’t chosen.
That thorn didn’t stop his purpose.
It kept him dependent on God.
And this is where rendering comes in.
Rendering is not just giving God your good days—
it’s giving Him your thorn too.
We're saying:
God, I give You my weakness.
God, I give You what I don’t understand.
God, I give You the thing I keep struggling with.
Like Paul had a thorn, David had his struggles—yet he stayed seeking.
Yet, even in all of that, David always went back to God. He didn’t hide—he was real, and he rendered his heart.
And as citizens, we have to be true to ourselves and true to our Father—even though He already knows what our struggles are.
I am learning to render myself to Him.
I am rendering my problems.
I am rendering my struggles to Him.
“Pay close attention to yourself [concentrate on your personal development] and to your teaching; persevere in these things…” — 1 Timothy 4:16
For us to have personal and corporate growth, we must render and surrender.
We have to be honest and not judgmental.
We have to lead by example for the Millennials, Gen Z, Gen Y, and Generation Alpha. Because they are watching through their lens of eyes to see our honesty and how we are living.
*Hence why:*
_Our salvation is important._
The definition of salvation, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is deliverance from sin and its consequences; preservation or deliverance from harm, ruin, or loss.
Hence,
*Why is salvation important?*
Because it restores our relationship with God.
Because it protects us from spiritual destruction and gives us life.
Because it is not just about being saved—it is about being transformed.
Because our life becomes a testimony for others.
And because what we render impacts not just us, but those connected to us.
*So again, I ask…*
What are you giving back to Him?
Because at the end of the day, He gave you everything—so give Him your yes.
Don’t just talk about Him—render your life to Him. 🙏🏽✨
