Now on view at The Current: ECCHO, a special presentation revisits The Current’s exhibition programming from the year thus far, bringing together vignettes from four exhibitions and presentations that have shaped our 2026 programme.

Featuring selections from Re-Constructing the Paradigm, My Body Is Holding Salt Water From The Sea, Spit White Lime, and our 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair New York presentation, the installation offers another opportunity to encounter works and ideas that have moved through The Current’s spaces both at home in The Bahamas and abroad.

Together, these vignettes reflect the range of practices, perspectives, and conversations we’ve had the privilege of presenting throughout 2026—and offer a moment to look back before we move into the next chapter of our exhibition programme.

Now on view: Empathy as a Birthing Place — a group exhibition featuring works by Max Taylor, Heino Schmid, Cydne Jasmin Coleby, and Matthew David Ramming.

Centering the Bahamian woman as an icon of Bahamian society, the exhibition explores motherhood, migration, identity, resilience, and possibility through modern and contemporary Bahamian printmaking and drawing. Together, the works reflect on the interconnected social, cultural, and environmental realities that shape women’s experiences in The Bahamas, and the empathy that emerges through witnessing these stories.

Visit The Suite at The Current: ECCHO to experience Empathy as a Birthing Place, on view through December 27, 2026. Admission is free and open to the public—stop by during our operating hours.

We are grateful to our host, Royann Dean, and our panelists Hon. Sebastian Bastian, Greg Michelier, Sree Gudipati, and Wayne Simper for an engaging conversation exploring the future of digital transformation and artificial intelligence within The Bahamian government.

OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS | At The Edge Of The Water

The Current: ECCHO, in collaboration with Baha Mar’s Conservation & Sustainability team, invites emerging, mid-career, and established Bahamian artists to submit work for At The Edge Of The Water, a group exhibition exploring the environmental, cultural, and ecological significance of water within The Bahamas and beyond.

Presented during Baha Mar’s annual Climate Week, the exhibition seeks contemporary works that engage with themes of climate change, marine conservation, environmental justice, sustainability, memory, resilience, and our evolving relationship with the sea.

Artists working in all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Submissions may include up to three existing works, proposed new works, or a combination of both.

A powerful moment from our recent inspired/by session, Art as a Diplomatic Soft Power.

As cultural leaders, artists, and policymakers explored The Bahamas’ growing presence on the international stage, the conversation turned to the role art plays in shaping global understanding beyond the postcard image of paradise.

“People left the pavilion with a completely new understanding of not just who we are, but of the issues we face.”
