Designed by Sergio Rodrigues in 1960, the Redig Dining Table combines a long rectangular rosewood top with a trestle base, central stretcher, and caster wheels that allow the piece to be repositioned while maintaining a stable seated configuration.

Measuring 200 centimeters in length, the table remains in original condition, with its rosewood surface and joinery unaltered since production. The use of native woods and direct construction was central to Rodrigues’s practice, developed through Oca, which he founded in Rio de Janeiro in 1955 as a space for Brazilian furniture and craft.

A four-seat sofa by Fátima Arquitetura Interiores (FAI), produced in Brazil during the 1960s and recently restored at .

Constructed in solid wood with rosewood veneers, the sofa combines a rectilinear frame, open armrests, and a slatted back with four upholstered seat and back cushions.

The sofa shares the same formal language as a pair of armchairs by FAI, also in our collection. Both were restored at Bossa Workshop and upholstered in the same textile from Bossa Fabrics, our ongoing textile collection rooted in natural materials, artisanal processes, and production in Brazil.

Founded in Rio de Janeiro in 1960 by architects Guilherme Nunes and Sávio Visconti, FAI brought together architecture, decoration, and art. Its furniture production was characterized by straight lines, careful construction, and the use of materials including rosewood, leather, cotton textiles, and straw.

Sábado na Bossa · Saturdays at Bossa

Starting this week, Bossa Flagship São Paulo will also welcome visitors on Saturdays, from 10:30am to 3pm.

Located in Bela Vista, our São Paulo headquarters brings together the gallery, showroom, office, and our complete woodworking and upholstery workshop. It is where our research into Brazilian modernist furniture meets the preservation and restoration of works by designers including Lina Bo Bardi, Joaquim Tenreiro, Jorge Zalszupin, Percival Lafer, Oscar Niemeyer, Martin Eisler, and Carlo Hauner.

The same curatorial perspective extends to contemporary design. Bossa is the official representative in Brazil of Beni Rugs, handmade in Morocco, and India Mahdavi, the Paris-based architect and designer.

This dining table, designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli in the 1950s, is executed in caviuna wood with tapering legs finished in brass sabots. It includes two extension leaves in its central section, allowing the top to be expanded in stages.

At its minimum size, the table measures 78.5 centimeters in height, 200 centimeters in width, and 99.8 centimeters in depth. With the intermediate extension, the width reaches 235 centimeters; at its maximum size, with both 35-centimeter leaves in place, it reaches 270 centimeters, while the height and depth remain constant.

Giuseppe Scapinelli (1911–1982) was born in Italy and immigrated to Brazil in 1948, settling in São Paulo. He began working as a furniture designer in the early 1950s, when he founded his own furniture factory, Fábrica de Móveis Giesse, and a rug factory, Fábrica de Tapetes Santa Helena. His production features curved forms and sinuous lines, reflecting how his background in ceramics, architecture, sculpture, and painting informed his furniture design.

This piece, previously restored, was presented at the Brazilian Architecture Biennial (BAB) 2026.

Produced by Zanine Caldas in Brazil during the 1960s, this pair of plywood armchairs was restored at , where research into the pieces, their construction, and original assembly informed the intervention.

The seats and backrests were reupholstered in a handwoven grey textile from Bossa Fabrics, our ongoing textile collection rooted in natural materials, artisanal techniques, and production in Brazil. Original hardware was retained throughout, preserving the integrity of the joinery.

José Zanine Caldas (1919–2001) was a self-taught Brazilian designer and architect. In 1948, he co-founded Móveis Artísticos Z in Rio de Janeiro, where he developed plywood furniture before later turning to sculptural works in solid timber.

Research is never far from what we do at Bossa.

It may begin with books, magazines, archives, and historical documentation, but it rarely ends there. Research also means looking closely at materials: woods, textiles, textures, construction techniques, markings, references, and the details that help us understand how a piece was conceived and made.

This investigation extends to the materials we work with today. Alongside Bossa Fabrics, our textile collection rooted in natural materials, artisanal processes, and production in Brazil, we work with specialized textiles by Dedar, Larsen, Loro Piana, Rogers & Goffigon, among others.

Across our collection, exhibitions, restoration work, and material development, research remains a connecting thread: between documentation and objects, historical references and contemporary practice, what we find in the archive and what the material itself can reveal.

Designed before the Oca store foundation, the Mocho stool is undoubtedly one of Sergio Rodrigues masterpieces.

As a free interpretation of a typical rural artifact, the cow-milking stool, the Mocho stool synthesizes both functions' simplicity: a piece that could work as a seat and support for objects. It is a low piece on which the user has to crouch to sit, aided by a handle that allows it to be moved anywhere.

The year was 1954, and Rodrigues sought a skilled lathe-operating carpenter and showed him the stool design. Right there, they produced the very first piece. It has been a success since then, arousing great interest from the public and other furniture manufacturers.

Produced in the 1960s by Celina Decorações, this desk has a simple yet functional structure that reflects the early stages of industrialization in Brazilian furniture design. Wide rosewood boards, alternating between solid and veneered plywood, bring the wood grain to the center of the design, while two supporting legs, a large top, and two drawers define its construction.

Founded in Rio de Janeiro in 1938, Celina Decorações became an important name in Brazilian modernist furniture, combining industrial production with artisanal craftsmanship.
