🏝 “ my friend”, said the driver as he drove me down the late night roads of San Jose to my hostel. I had just landed and I had questioned him on recommendations on my itinerary. He let out a small chuckle and smiled “it means pure life, living life to the fullest! Just relax”. I nodded in agreement. After all, how hard could it be? Later on my trip I headed to Santa Teresa; the bumpy un paved roads from the ferry lulling myself and newfound travel companions to sleep on the shuttle. I arrived to this tiny beach village and felt a different vibe. Gone were the honks of the city and large infrastructure and instead I found local food places (called sodas), surf shops and ATVs going up and down the coastline. I was grabbing a bite when I decided to stop checking my work emails as I realized my head was constantly elsewhere and that work was stressing me out. I dropped my bags and went to the Santa Teresa beach. I was surprised,it went on further than the eye could see and even became slightly hazy near the end. Dogs running around loosely (doggo heaven), people surfing and smiling as the sun went down. The only music being the sounds of the waves as I walked with my camera up and down the shore. Golden hour light shining on the low tide as I see this dog taking a nap. I take the photo, and take a moment to breathe and appreciate my surrounding and take it in. That night’s sunset was a flurry of vivid red, purple/pink and orange and I made sure to walk down that road to the beach the next few days. I napped, surfed, walked around and slowly let go of all my worries and stress. I realized I now knew what it meant. Just like that dog laying in the warm sun and a surfer about to hit the waves, it’s about taking time to enjoy the little moments without stress and work clouding our minds. Pura Vida
