Sergey Bobrov had recently returned after funerals of great ballet master of 20th century Yuri Grigorovich, who the whole ballet world had recently said goodbye to. Sergey hadn’t only participated in his performances but also learned the art of choreography from the great master. Even more, Sergey was the only choreographer
whom Grigorovich trust to be co-author in his shows.

Yuri Grigorovich had a great gift to conserve art of a classical ballet but also to move it forward. Every time after this kind of master is gone, classical ballet is staying an orphan.

Fortunately, his Sergey Bobrov always took the most difficult parts of classical ballet and already created more than 30 shows! And we believe that the golden key to the world of classical choreography, that was in the hands of Yuri Grigorovich now is here in Varna, we’re Sergey Bobrov creates!

We decided to ask Sergey: “What was the main lesson You’ve learned from Grigorovich in life?” Answer was really unexpected.

Sergey Bobrov: “I always heard from Yuri Grigorovich, that “you need to put people in front of fact of your art”. And I haven’t understood straight away which deep meaning he put in this phrase!

Grigorovich was a genius novator but also he took a great organisation responsibility! Because ballet is art of individuals but also a result of a difficult team work. We had to hold a great plank of our art every day!

He could foresee the situation many moves ahead. And not everyone could understand his final concept straight away. That’s way Grigorovich understood that “You need to put people in front of fact of your art”. To replace a difficult theatrical machine from a place and lead it to a premiere. Endless memory for my teacher Yuri Grigorovich!”

The ballet "Don Quixote" is absolutely ethereal. Scenes from the ballet are a staple at any ballet competition, allowing artists to showcase their power and grace as well as their love for this piece of art.

We are so excited to announce that the première of our own "Don Quixote" will take place in a few days in Italy, and then - at home, in Varna. In our troupe, there are many for whom Italy is their homeland, and among them are even leading soloists. We hope being back at home will help them shine!

People, that even never ever heard about ballet, had hear about «Giselle». In this year there is 215 years from birthday of her Creator - Jules Perrot.

He always was craving to dance, but never was able to show his ballet proportions, and it inspired him to create effective elements that perfectly suites his figure. He spoiled relationship with legendary Maria Taglioni, because he wasn’t scared to leave the Paris Opera and worked successfully in different countries in the world. His health started to get worse because he spent all of his power to choreography.

"Katarina, the robbers daughter" is his exclusive and successful performance which are going in all of the world venues. In 19th century this ballet amazed and conquered Europe, but then was forgotten. The director of Varna International Ballet Sergey Bobrov surgically reconstructed the show and also filled it with ballet achievements of 21st century.

We are lucky to have our “second Jules Perrot”, which have already achieved many prises for this show. Let’s ask Sergey Bobrov, which part of Jules Perrot's’s art he finds the most magnetising.

“I really appreciate that he haven’t stopped on one particular genre. Perrot had mastered a lyric dance and also a mass stages, using all the cordobalet and elements of a characteristic dance. Even a tragedy in Perrot’s show leaves a space for hope. I really love life in all of her expressions and fell that Jules Perrot also lived every moment of his life for one hundred pro cent. Even more, when I worked on “Katarinas” reconstruction, I was likely to feel his invisible presence. I am shure, that our “robbers daughter” of 21st century wouldn’t disappoint him!”

Oh, how wonderful are our "harlequins" and "columbines" in "Katarina, the Robber’s Daughter"! However, on the surviving sheet of paper with the names of the main characters in the 19th century, they were not even mentioned.

Thank goodness for finding a drawing by the theater artist Ponomarev, who wrote on the side that there were 8 "harlequins" on stage. Sergei Bobrov restored everything and gave them magnificent dances. And now they, along with the "columbines” are the public's favorites.
