What does Carnegie Hall mean to me?
Something very personal… The last time I was in this hall was exactly ten years ago, when my absolutely incredible piano teacher, John Perry, celebrated his 80th birthday with a concert. I traveled from Sofia to New York specifically for that event, which left an unforgettable memory in my mind - as, by the way, did all of his concerts that I attended.

He could play in that unique way - making each listener feel that the performance was meant personally for them. Just as John Perry could make every person he spoke with to feel special and unique, the most important one in the world.

His music-making transcended the laws of physics, making the piano sound three-dimensional - something as unthinkable as it was real.

I once asked him how he did it. He answered: “You know.”

I know that John Perry taught me the most important lesson in music - that I have the right to play beautifully.

I was fortunate to see him on his 90th birthday earlier this year. He was so happy that I had crossed the ocean once again in his honor - just to see him, but, as it turned out, for the last time.

I dedicate my concert on November 12 at Carnegie Hall to his memory - the legendary giant of music, John Perry.
