Voici ma dernière création originale et 174ème mini diorama de ma collection Jacky Ickx 1/43 - IROC 1984 - Michigan international speedway - Camaro Z28

Qualif: 3eme
Course : 9eme

1ere des 4 courses de ce championnat pour 12 coureurs dans des Camara Z28 identiques tirées au sort lors de chaque manche.

Porsche s'étant retiré de l'édition des 24H du Mans qui tombait le même weekend, Jacky Ickx et Dereck Bell étaient libres d'accepter l'invitation. Étonnant pour Ickx qui n'avait pas gardé un bon souvenir de sa précédente participation en 77-78 et peu intéressé par les courses sur ovales mais George Follmer le persuada de réessayer. Sur une voiture qu'il estimait mal équilibrée, il termina 9eme mais gardait l'espoir de mieux faire lors de la course suivante sur un circuit classique

3eme livrée différente avec cette #15 blanche après la #12 rouge et la #11 noire pour compléter la collection des voitures du championnat IROC 84

Même base de départ que pour les 2 précédentes réalisations : kit Ixo Camaro Iron-Z 1986

Décapage puis Ponçage des ailes, des poignées de portière, de la trape à essence. Confection du kit carrosserie avec des feuilles de styrène 0,5mm. Confection d’un nouvel intérieur, pilote de chez vroom.

nouvelle peinture pure white, confection des attaches de pare-brise dans de la feuille d’aluminium pour gravure 1/10mm. Filet latéral de protection avec de la toile moustiquaire. Jantes de chez Renaissance model avec modification des pneus d’origine IXO en supprimant les dessin our en faire des pneus slicks.

Aucune photo disponible sur le net. Une video Youtube m’a permis de vérifier la décoration avec des captures d’écran.

Here is my latest original creation and the 174th 1/43 scale mini-diorama in my Jacky Ickx collection:

IROC 1984 – Michigan International Speedway – Camaro Z28

Qualifying: 3rd
Race: 9th

The first of the four races of this championship, featuring 12 drivers competing in identical Camaro Z28s, randomly allocated before each round.

As Porsche had withdrawn from the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which was held on the same weekend, Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell were free to accept the invitation. This was somewhat surprising for Ickx, who had not had good memories of his previous participation in 1977–78 and had little interest in oval racing. However, George Follmer persuaded him to give it another try.

Driving a car he considered poorly balanced, Ickx finished 9th, but remained hopeful of doing better in the next race, which would be held on a conventional road course.

This is the third different livery for the IROC 1984 collection, with this white #15 joining the #12 in red and the #11 in black, completing the three cars from the championship that I have built so far.

The starting point was the same as for the two previous creations: an IXO Camaro IROC/Z28 1986 kit.

The body was stripped and then modified by sanding away the wheel-arch flares, door handles and fuel filler cap. The body kit was scratch-built using 0.5 mm styrene sheets. A new interior was also made, with a Vroom driver figure.

The body was finished in Pure White. The windscreen mounting brackets were made from 0.1 mm aluminium sheet. The side protective netting was made using mosquito mesh.

The wheels are from Renaissance Models, with the original IXO tyres modified by removing the tread pattern to turn them into slick tyres.

No photographs of this particular car could be found online. A YouTube video allowed me to verify the livery and details using screenshots.

The specific decal sheet was designed, printed and scaled by Modèles Rédu-ickx.

WIP de la semaine : IROC 1984 - 1ere course : Michigan

3ème livrée pour cette Camaro #15 de la première course au Michigan. Au départ d’un kit IXO Camaro Z28 1986. Ponçage des ailes, des poignées de portière, de la trape à essence. Confection du kit carrosserie avec des feuilles de styrène 0,5mm. Confection d’un nouvel intérieur, pilote de chez vroom.

Conception, mise à l’échelle et impression de la planche de décalcomanies spécifique.

Le résultat final dans quelques jours.

WIP of the week: IROC 1984 – 1st Race: Michigan

3rd livery for this #15 Camaro from the first race in Michigan. Starting from an IXO Camaro Z28 1986 kit. Sanding down the fenders, door handles and fuel filler cap. The body kit was scratch-built using 0.5 mm styrene sheets. A new interior was also made, with a Vroom driver figure.

Voici ma dernière réalisation et 173ème mini diorama de ma collection Jacky Ickx 1/43 - Course de côte de la citadelle. 1963 - J.Ickx - Ford Cortina Lotus - 1er de classe groupe 2

Le directeur de Ford Belgique Franke Pepermans qui avait été impressionné par la 1ere course de Jacky Ickx à la Roche l’invita avec ses parents pour un lunch.

Perpermans félicita Jacky Ickx de s’en être bien sorti de son accident à La Roche et Jacky répliqua avec humour qu’il attendait que Ford l’engage au volant d’une Cortina. Jacky resta sans voix lorsque Pepermans lui expliqua que la 1ere Cortina de Ford Belgique serait pour lui!

Ickx dut patienter jusque Septembre afin que le processus d’homologation du véhicule soit terminé. 1ere Course au volant de cette nouvelle voiture lors de la course de côte de la Cidatelle de Namur. La Ford Corina Lotus allait définitivement propulser la carrière et la réputation de Jacky Ickx. Record de la montée du groupe 2 malgré un temps maussade

Pour ceux qui connaissent la route merveilleuse, c’est une route pavée en arc de cercle. Comment représenter cela de manière réaliste au 1/43? Au départ d’un schéma imprimé , découpe de +/-1000 pavés de 2*2mm dans une feuille de styrène 0,3mm puis collage 1 à 1. Après peinture de fond en gris moyen XF-54 réalisation des joints avec du Tamiya panel line accent noir et puis nettoyage et patine. Confection de 2 bottes de paille et ajout des traces de pneus.

Base de départ : kit Minichamps Ford Cortina 1964 avec conduite à droite et en blanc hermine. Effacement des décals avec de l’acétone. Seule la face avant a du être légèrement modifiée : trous du pare choc à reboucher et nouvelle peinture en racing white de chez Tamiya de la zone uniquement. Modification de l’assiette de la voiture pour le virage et modification du pilote vroom. Il a fallu sculpter le casque pour revenir au tout premier modèle de casque bol avec le cuir noir. Rajout des fenêtres latérales non présentes.

Ford Belgium director Frank Pepermans, who had been impressed by Jacky Ickx’s first race at La Roche, invited Jacky and his parents to lunch.

Pepermans congratulated Jacky on coming through his accident at La Roche so well, and Jacky jokingly replied that he was waiting for Ford to give him a drive in a Cortina. Jacky was speechless when Pepermans explained that the very first Ford Belgium Cortina would be his!

Ickx had to wait until September for the car’s homologation process to be completed. His first race at the wheel of this new car was the Citadel Hill Climb in Namur. The Ford Cortina Lotus would go on to give Jacky Ickx’s career and reputation a major boost. He set the Group 2 hill-climb record despite the poor weather conditions.

For those familiar with the road called La Merveilleuse, ( the Marvellous road) is a handcrafted paving with a fan pattern. How could I reproduce it realistically at 1/43 scale?
Starting from a printed diagram, I cut approximately 1,000 individual 2 × 2 mm cobblestones from a 0.3 mm sheet of styrene and then glued them down one by one. After applying a base coat in medium grey (XF-54), I added the joints using Tamiya Black Panel Line Accent, followed by cleaning and weathering. I also made two straw bales and added tyre tracks.

Starting point: Minichamps Ford Cortina 1964 kit, right-hand drive, in Ermine White. The decals were removed using acetone. Only the front end required slight modification: the bumper mounting holes were filled, and the area was repainted exclusively with Tamiya Racing White. The car’s stance was modified to suit the corner, and the Vroom driver was also modified. The helmet had to be sculpted to recreate Jacky’s very first open-face helmet design with black leather. Side windows, which were not present on the original model, were also added.

PROJET DE LA SEMAINE #173 : course de côte de la Cidatelle 1963.

Pour ceux qui connaissent la route Merveilleuse, c’est une route pavée en arc de cercle. Comment représenter cela de manière réaliste au 1/43? J’ai d’abord pensé à imprimer un schéma sur internet qu’il aurait suffit de mettre en couleur mais l’absence de relief ne me convenait pas. Je suis parti du schéma et j’ai finalement décidé de découper +/-1000 pavés de 2*2mm dans une feuille de styrène 0,3mm que j’ai collés 1 à 1. Après peinture réalisation des joints avec du Tamiya panel line accent noir et puis nettoyage et patine. Confection de 2 bottes de paille et ajout des traces de pneus.

Modification de l’assiette de la voiture pour le virage et modification du pilote vroom. Il a fallu sculpter le casque pour revenir au tout premier modèle de casque modèle bol avec le cuir noir

WIP OF THE WEEK #173: Cidatelle Hill Climb 1963

For those familiar with the road called La Merveilleuse, ( the Marvellous road) is a handcrafted paving with a fan pattern. How could I reproduce it realistically at 1/43 scale?

At first, I thought about printing a diagram I found online and simply painting it, but the lack of relief didn’t look convincing enough. So I used the diagram as a starting point and finally decided to cut approximately 1,000 individual 2 × 2 mm cobblestones from a 0.3 mm styrene sheet and glue them down one by one.

After painting, I added the joints using Tamiya Black Panel Line Accent, followed by cleaning and weathering. I also made two straw bales and added tyre marks to the road.

The car’s stance was modified to reproduce its position through the corner, and the Vroom driver was also modified. The helmet had to be sculpted to recreate the very first style of helmet: the bowl-shaped design with black leather.

The final result in a few days!

Voici ma nouvelle création originale dans la collection des mini casques Jacky Ickx 1/5 : #18 : Monaco Historic GP 2026

Le 15eme Grand prix de Monaco Historique s’est déroulé du 24 au 26 avril 2026. Pour célébrer les 75ans de la première victoire de Ferrari, Jacky Ickx a pu effectuer à 2 reprises plusieurs tours du circuit dans sa mythique Ferrari 312 avec laquelle il avait remporté sa première victoire à Rouen en 1968. A cette occasion, il portait un casque à la décoration particulière.

Base de départ: casque Jacky Ickx 1971. Ponçage complet ensuite modification de l’ouverture : la taille doit être réduite. Le joint d’origine après ponçage et enduisage fera partie du casque. Un nouveau joint à l’intérieur de l’ouverture réduite est réalisé par collage d’un fil de plomb 1mm et permettra ainsi de diminuer de 2mm la hauteur de l’ouverture dans le casque . Le contour de l’ouverture est peint à l’aérographe, le liséré du bas est en décalcomanie. Ajout de quelques détails comme les différents vis et rivets, pose des décalcomanies et vernissage avec du TAMIYA LACQUER CLEAR LP-9

Here is my latest original creation in my collection of Jacky Ickx 1/5 scale mini helmets: #18 – Monaco Historic GP 2026

The 15th Monaco Historic Grand Prix took place from April 24 to 26, 2026. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of Ferrari’s first victory, Jacky Ickx had the opportunity to complete several laps of the circuit on two occasions in his legendary Ferrari 312, the car with which he scored his first Grand Prix victory at Rouen in 1968. On this occasion, he wore a helmet featuring a distinctive and unique design.

Starting point: 1971 Jacky Ickx helmet. The helmet was completely sanded down, followed by modification of the visor opening, which had to be reduced in size. After sanding and filling, the original rubber seal was retained as part of the helmet. A new seal was created inside the reduced opening by gluing a 1 mm lead wire, reducing the height of the helmet opening by 2 mm.

The outline of the opening was painted using an airbrush, while the lower trim was made using a decal. WIP of the week: Jacky Ickx 1/5 scale mini helmet collection #18

On this occasion, he wore a helmet featuring a very distinctive design.

Starting point: Spark 1/5 scale Jacky Ickx 1971 helmet.

After completely sanding the helmet, the opening had to be modified and reduced in size. The original rim, after sanding and filling, will be retained as part of the helmet. A new inner rim around the reduced opening was made by gluing a 1 mm lead wire into place.

Finally, a specific decal sheet was designed and scaled to the correct size.

The final result in a few days!

Voici ma dernière réalisation et 172ème mini diorama de ma collection Jacky Ickx 1/43 - Paris-Tripoli-Dakar 1991 - J.Ickx/C.Tarin- Citroën ZX rallye raid - DNF

Nouvelle bataille entre Ickx et Vatanen avec un parcours essentiellement inédit avec 4 étapes marathon des plus dures pour les hommes et la mécanique. Au Niger, entre Tillia et Gao, une étape de 630km où le team Citroën avait calculé une moyenne de 40km/h, Ickx et Waldegård virent là l’opportunité de regagner beaucoup de temps.

Malheureusement, les amortisseurs à l’huile de la ZX ont surchauffé avant d’exploser et de percer un passage de roue. L’huile se répandait partout et au contact du turbo et des disques brûlants, un incendie se déclenchât aussitôt, alimenté par 350L d’essence à bord. Avec beaucoup de chance, Ickx et Tarin purent sortir de la voiture à temps , mais la ZX fut complètement détruite. La 3eme ZX de Waldegård souffrit du même problème 80km plus loin et le véhicule fut aussi détruit par les flammes. Vatanen le leader, qui avait décidé d’adopter un rythme beaucoup plus lent s’en sorti pour finalement gagner le rallye. Malheureusement cet accident allait se répéter 10 moins plus t**d au rallye des Pharaons où Christian Tarin succombait à ses brûlures quelques jours plus t**d.

Base de Départ: Kit IXO-Altaya Citroën ZX Ari Vatanen. Une réalisation un peu plus facile. Il existe chez Stand 26 un kit de décalcomanies de la version Ickx-Tarin qui permet de modifier facilement les numéros et d‘ajouter la publicité du cigarettier CAMEL non présente sur le kit IXO.

Le but est de conserver le support de présentation d’origine mais d’y ajouter un nuage de poussière confectionné avec de l’ouate. Le support est repeint XF-59 Desert yellow de chez Tamiya. Les pilote et copilote viennent de chez VROOM (set nr 399) .

Le pare-buffle est remplacé par un nouveau plus fin et fidèle à la réalité à l’aide de fil de laiton 0,5mm plié.

Le protège carter en plastique gris moulé est recouvert d’une feuille d’aluminium pour plus de réalisme. Weathering du véhicule et des pneus avec du XF-59 à l’aérographe. Pour terminer, un weatheting général du modèle est réalisé à l'aerographe.

Here’s my latest build and the 172nd mini diorama in my 1/43 Jacky Ickx collection – 1991 Paris–Tripoli–Dakar – Jacky Ickx / Christian Tarin – Citroën ZX Rallye Raid – DNF

Another fierce battle between Ickx and Vatanen unfolded over a route that was largely new, featuring four extremely demanding marathon stages that pushed both the crews and the cars to their limits. On the 630 km stage in Niger between Tillia and Gao, where the Citroën team had calculated an average speed of only 40 km/h, Ickx and Waldegård saw an opportunity to regain significant time.

Unfortunately, the ZX’s oil-filled shock absorbers overheated before exploding, tearing through a wheel arch. Oil sprayed everywhere and, upon contact with the turbocharger and the glowing hot brake discs, the car immediately burst into flames, fuelled by the 350 litres of petrol carried on board. Fortunately, Ickx and Tarin managed to escape just in time, but the ZX was completely destroyed. Waldegård’s third ZX suffered exactly the same failure 80 km later and was also consumed by fire. Vatanen, who was leading the rally and had chosen to maintain a much slower pace, avoided these problems and eventually went on to win the event.

Tragically, history repeated itself ten months later during the Rally of the Pharaohs, where Christian Tarin suffered severe burns in a similar accident and sadly passed away a few days later.

Starting point: IXO-Altaya Citroën ZX Ari Vatanen kit. This was a relatively straightforward conversion. Stand 26 produces a decal set for the Ickx/Tarin version, making it easy to change the race numbers and add the CAMEL cigarette sponsorship, which is missing from the original IXO model.

The aim was to retain the original display base while adding a cloud of dust made from cotton wool. The base was repainted with Tamiya XF-59 Desert Yellow. The driver and co-driver figures are from VROOM (Set No. 399).

The bull bar was replaced with a finer, more accurate version made from 0.5 mm brass wire.

The moulded grey plastic skid plate was covered with aluminium foil for a more realistic appearance. The vehicle and tyres were weathered with Tamiya XF-59 applied with an airbrush. Finally, the entire model received an overall airbrushed weathering treatment to reproduce the dust and harsh conditions of the Dakar Rally.

WIP de la semaine #172 : Dakar 1991 - Citroen ZX rallye raid - J. Ickx - C. Tarin

Une réalisation un peu plus facile au départ du kit IXO-Altaya de la Nr 205. Il existe chez Stand 26 un kit de décalcomanies de la version Ickx-Tarin qui permet de modifier facilement les numéros et d‘ajouter la publicité du cigaretier CAMEL non présente sur le kit IXO.

Le but est de conserver le support de présentation d’origine mais d’y ajouter le nuage de poussière. Le support sera repeint en XF-59 Desert yellow de chez Tamiya. Les pilote et copilote viennent de chez VROOM (set nr 399) .

WIP of the Week #172: 1991 Dakar Rally – Citroën ZX Rally Raid – J. Ickx / C. Tarin

This project is a little more straightforward, starting from the IXO-Altaya model of car #205. Stand 26 offers a decal set for the Ickx–Tarin version, making it easy to change the race numbers and add the CAMEL cigarette sponsorship, which is missing from the original IXO model.

The goal is to retain the original display base while adding a realistic dust cloud. The base will berepainted with Tamiya XF-59 Desert Yellow. The driver and co-driver figures are from VROOM (set No. 399).

The bull bar will be replaced with a finer, more accurate version made from 0.5 mm brass wire, carefully bent to shape.

The molded grey plastic skid plate will be covered with a thin sheet of aluminium for a more realistic appearance.

The final step will be to weather the car and its tyres to achieve a convincing rally finish. The completed model will be revealed in a few days.
