BOEM A zine by and for young artists 💥 We, Annelies and Sare, are two recently graduated illustrators and best friends. Who’s who?

For us, art is an essential source of inspiration and expression, and we dream of sharing it with the world in a meaningful way. That dream led to BOEM, a zine project where we connect our personal vision with that of other artists. What started as a small project with friends quickly grew into something much bigger: a platform for experimentation, energy, and creativity. The name BOEM represents

spontaneity, enthusiasm, and impact for us. It symbolizes the intensity of youth and the flow of new experiences. With BOEM, we aim to bring art together in a vibrant mix of styles created by artists from Ghent and its surroundings. Each edition gives an artist the opportunity to design the cover and set a new theme, bringing fresh perspectives and new energy every time. Our goal is not only to provide a platform for artists but also to create broader connections with diverse audiences. BOEM exists to celebrate creativity, free from the constraints of commissions or obligations. Above all, we want to inspire and support students and emerging artists, offering them what we wished we had during our early days. For us, BOEM is a way to combine art and energy while making a positive impact on society. Our team is made up of talented artists, each with their own unique style and story. BOEM was founded by Annelies Bollaers (’98) and Sare Hoste (’00), who are not only the driving forces behind the project but also contribute as artists. Together, they collaborate with Arthur Devisscher (’96), Thomas Janssens (’00), Cheyenne Deckx (’98), Marion Beeck (’91), Berre Daneels (’99), Charlot Vael (’00), Nina Renier (’97), Simon Baert (’99), Maria Farré (’93), Eva Vanhoorne (’99), Kaylan Saro (’97), and Beppe Geerts (’99). Each member brings their unique vision and creativity to make BOEM a special collaborative effort. Instagram

💥 Annelies Bollaers 💥

Annelies Bollaers' work is playful and dynamic, blending organic and geometric shapes with unexpected combinations to create a world that feels both familiar and strange. Introducing our artist: Arthur Devisscher 🎪

Arthur is the creative mind behind the stunning artwork for the cover of this very first edition of BOEM! He chose an inspiring theme for the occasion: the circus. With its vibrant energy and playful atmosphere, the theme perfectly sets the tone for this debut.

We had the privilege of diving into Arthur’s creative process, learning more about his vision and approach, and asking him a few questions about what drives his artistry. Get a look on our insta and swipe right to discover his portrait and get to know the person behind the artwork 🧡

Hi! We are Annelies and Sare, two recently graduated illustrators and best friends. For us, art is an indispensable source of inspiration and expression in life, and we want to share this with the world in various ways.

Our idea was to create a publication in collaboration with young, emerging artists who, like us, are looking for a platform to let their work flourish. We’ve noticed that there’s often a high barrier and uncertainty when it comes to sharing work or trying new things. Through our platform, we want to provide a space to overcome that.

And so, the adventure of BOEM begins! A zine by and for young artists, where there’s room for self-discovery and the chance to meet new people 💥

The name BOEM symbolizes energy, spontaneity, and enthusiasm for us – a powerful and surprising idea we want to share with others. Through BOEM, we aim to embrace the intensity of being young and the flow of new experiences, translating these into something tangible that can have an impact on society.

BOEM is a quarterly zine with a limited print run. Each edition features a new theme determined by a different artist, challenging everyone involved. At the moment, we’re working with a team of 14 artists, each with their own unique approach, bringing something fresh to the table.

There’s so much more excitement to come, so see you soon 🧡
Love,
Annelies & Sare
