ETCetera - European Theatre Club, Brussels

ETCetera - the European Theatre Club is a non-profit organisation offering amateur theatre shows in Brussels in several languages.

We put on European plays and other performance-based activities, including music, dance or poetry from different countries. To help access different languages, ETCetera provides limited surtitling in many events. (The lingua franca for other events such as meetings and workshops is normally in English.) ETCetera has so far produced 5 highly successful and fully sold-out, multilingual events since

2009, These productions have brought together English, French and Spanish plays, from the same theatrical genre, into one entertainment-filled evening.They have ranged from period dramas and comedies, to comedy of the absurd, and showcasing Belgian theatre. ETC has also provided surtitles into ES, FR and EN - as appropriate, for all its shows. ETCetera draws on existing talent within the Brussels community for both actors and backstage helpers, but sets out to encourage new talent in both areas. Occasional workshops may be held in English, Spanish or other languages on both acting or backstage activities, or links provided to other events organised by other clubs. Play readings of plays in different languages may be held, and anyone is encouraged to attend, whatever their level of experience, acting ability or knowledge of the language. AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Chers Parents

ETCetera is delighted to announce auditions for its Spring 2027 production: Chers Parents, to be performed in French and English at La Petite salle, Auderghem Cultural Centre 24th-27th February and 3rd-6th March 2027.
When the Gauthier parents win the lottery, the family’s resentments and secrets are revealed with dramatic effect.
The early audition date is due to the nature of the piece: how the play will be divided between the two languages will depend upon the casting of the piece. In addition Janet has prior commitments which means that the rehearsal process will be sporadic and only fully commence in mid November.

Casting
The Gauthier Family:
The parents, in their late 60s
Jeanne
Vincent
The casting of these 2 roles will be that one parent is a native French speaker, the other a native English speaker. The designation of these 2 roles will directly affect the French/English division of the play.

It is anticipated that the children will speak primarily, but not always, French between themselves but to their parents in the native tongue of that parent. The children are aged 30-mid 40s.
Pierre: The eldest, and seemingly most successful child. Married with 2 children and a successful Eco business.
Jules: Youngest brother, wants to write his epic novel, but for now is a poor and somewhat unsuccessful journalist supported by his parents.
Louise: Youngest child. Trainee doctor who cannot settle to a speciality, single with only her cat for company and not entirely happy with her life. Slightly dippy.

Rehearsals will be in Etterbeek.
