Our upcoming exhibition presents a new body of work by Belgian artist Philippine d’Otreppe, created following a six-week residency at Casa Voa () in Rio de Janeiro last year.

Philippine began this series by gathering inspiration across the city of Rio and its surroundings. She spent weeks wandering through its streets, markets, beaches, and parks, sketching the many scenes, details, lush vegetation, and even snippets of conversation she encountered along the way. These sketches gradually formed both a portrait of and an ode to the city’s culture, capturing its warmth, rhythm, humour, and enduring dialogue with nature.

During the residency, Philippine began translating these observations into paintings, before later completing the larger ceramic works back in her studio in Brussels.

For the exhibition, EDJI Gallery will be transformed into a fully immersive environment that evokes the atmosphere of Rio itself. Think of the energy of bustling markets and sun-filled beaches transported to Brussels, just in time for the start of summer.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to the opening on Wednesday, 17 June, from 6 to 10pm, to discover this vibrant new body of work and celebrate the launch with us.

Jacob Todd Broussard is a painter based in Richmond, USA, who graduated with a MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale School of Art in 2019.

Drawing from personal history, q***r culture, and Southern vernacular imagery, he creates psychologically charged scenes that feel both intimate and theatrical. His paintings often unfold through fragmented interiors, staged environments, and dreamlike spaces where figures, objects, and symbols seem suspended between reality and fiction. Light plays a central role in the work, shaping atmospheres that feel at once familiar and slightly disorienting.

Throughout his practice, Broussard returns to ideas of transformation, perception, and the tension between individuality and belonging.

, La Danseuse, 2026. Oil on canvas.
Currently on view in Intimate Figures at EDJI.

For Tatiana Gorgievski, painting is less about constructing an image than discovering one.

Her works begin without sketches or fixed compositions. The figure emerges through layers of paint, gestures, erasures, and instinctive decisions made directly on the canvas. There’s a deeply corporeal relationship to painting in her process. Something raw, physical, almost chaotic.

You can feel that immediacy in the work. Bodies appear unstable, intimate, caught somewhere between appearance and disappearance. Tenderness and tension coexist. Desire and fragility too. Nothing is ever univocal.

On view until June 6th

Intimate Figures l Group exhibition

Intimate Figures brings together five painters approaching the figure in different ways. Some work through narrative and recognizable scenes, while others move toward more fragmented or abstract forms. Across the exhibition, bodies appear in domestic interiors, imagined landscapes, symbolic worlds, and unstable painterly surfaces, reflecting the wide range of what figuration can look like today.

On view through June 6th at EDJI in Brussels. More details via the link in bio !
