This Sunday (05/07/26) the show: 𝙇𝙚 𝙋𝙚̀𝙧𝙚 𝙎𝙖𝙪𝙫𝙖𝙜𝙚 – 𝘼 𝙋𝙤𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙈𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙤𝙛 𝙆(𝘾)𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙤 by Sammy Baloji will be presented in Barbican Centre , London! 🇨🇩🇧🇪🇬🇧

Last year in response to the 65th anniversary of the independence of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sammy Baloji presented in Bozar a musical evening inspired by the unrealised screenplay 𝘐𝘭 𝘱𝘢𝘥𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘢𝘨𝘨𝘪𝘰 by Pier Paolo Pasolini.

In this performance, he reimagines Pasolini’s manuscript from a contemporary Congolese perspective through three original musical compositions in dialogue.

Three musical universes created by Satch Hoyt , Szymon Brzoska, Composer and Pytshens Kambilo alongside scenographic intervention including a textile veil printed with a photograph from 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺 depicting the tropical forest of Yangambi and an image from the 𝘒𝘰𝘭𝘸𝘦𝘻𝘪 series showing the red earth of copper and cobalt mines will transform this time the Barbican into a space of resonance where sound becomes archive, memory, and a way to reflect on postcolonial futures.

The Golden Tanit for Best Documentary Film, awarded at the 36th Carthage Film Festival—the oldest Arab and African film festival—was celebrated at a Dakar avant-premiere last January and was attended by nearly 1,000 people at the Museum of Black Civilizations in Dakar! The film will be released in theaters in Senegal in May.
