Today, we honor our late Artistic Director Jo Matos with our annual remembrance, marking one year since her passing and celebrating the warmth, joy, and lasting connections she brought to our Joffrey community.

Last week, we hosted a celebration of her life, bringing together those who worked alongside her at Joffrey to share memories, enjoy some of her favorite snacks, and blow bubbles at Jefferson Market Garden Jefferson Market Garden 🌻 —a place she loved to visit during her time with us.

The love shared from near and far reminds us of the many lives she touched. We miss you, Ms. Jo, and carry your spirit with us today and always.

Artistic discovery is an important part of the training experience for our Jazz & Contemporary Trainee concentration students. Through a wide range of styles and disciplines, dancers continue to strengthen their technical foundations while exploring the different qualities, influences, and creative possibilities that shape their movement.

At Joffrey Ballet School, our Pre-Professional Trainee Program brings together the discipline of technical training and the freedom of creative exploration. Through this approach, our Trainees are encouraged to build upon their skills, expand their artistic understanding, and discover how their individual voices can emerge through the many forms of dance they study.

Discipline is at the heart of classical ballet training, shaped by the focus, consistency, and intention dancers bring into the studio each day.

For our Ballet Trainee concentration students, that commitment is present in every part of the training process, from strengthening the fundamentals to approaching new challenges with patience and purpose. At Joffrey Ballet School, these daily practices encourage our Pre-Professional Trainees to take ownership of their work and continue building the dedication, confidence, and artistry that shape them as dancers.
