আজ শহীদ নাজমুল কাজীর জন্মদিন।
১৮ জুলাই সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমে নাজমুল কাজী জানতে পারেন, শনির আখড়ায় আন্দোলনকারীদের জন্য পানি ও শুকনা খাবার প্রয়োজন। দেরি না করে মোহাম্মদবাগের বাসা থেকে বের হয়ে যান তিনি।পার্শ্ববর্তী একটি দোকান থেকে কিছু পানির বোতল ও শুকনা খাবার নিয়ে আন্দোলনকারীদের মাঝে বিতরণ করেন নাজমুল।
এ ঘটনায় ক্ষিপ্ত হয়ে সেখানে থাকা অস্ত্রধারী ছাত্রলীগ-যুবলীগ ক্যাডাররা তাঁকে ব্যাপক মারধর ও ছুরিকাঘাত করে রাস্তায় ফেলে রেখে যায়।
মুমূর্ষু অবস্থায় ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজে নেওয়া হয় তাঁকে। স্ত্রী মারিয়া খবর পেয়ে বিকেল ৫টায় ঢাকা মেডিকেলে পৌঁছান। সেখানে গিয়ে দেখেন, এক সারিতে পাঁচজনের লাশ। এর মধ্যে একজন তাঁর স্বামী নাজমুল কাজী।
স্বামীর লাশ দেখে মারিয়া কাঁদতে কাঁদতে বলেন, 'আমি বিধবা? আমার বিধবা হওয়ার বয়স হইছে বলেন!'
Today is the birth anniversary of martyr Nazmul Kazi.
On July 18, he learned through social media that water and dry food were needed for protesters in Shonir Akhra. Without delay, he left his home in Mohammadbag. Nazmul purchased several water bottles and some dry food from a nearby shop and distributed them among the protesters.
Angered by this, armed cadres of the Chhatra League and Jubo League present at the scene brutally beat and stabbed him, leaving him abandoned on the street.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College in critical condition. Upon receiving the news, his wife Maria reached Dhaka Medical College at 5:00 PM. There, she saw five bodies laid out in a row, one of which was her husband, Nazmul Kazi.
Upon seeing her husband's body, a weeping Maria said, "Am I a widow? Tell me, is this the age for me to be a widow!"
