What is Laylatul Qadr?
Laylatul Qadr (ŲŲŲØŠ اŲŲØ¯Øą), also known as the Night of Decree, is one of the most sacred nights in Islam. It is the night when the Qurâan was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad, and Allah describes it in Surah Al-Qadr as a night better than a thousand months.
This means that acts of worship done during this night are more rewarding than worship done for over 80 years. On this night, angels descend to the earth by Allahâs permission, bringing peace and blessings until the break of dawn.
Although the exact date is unknown, Laylatul Qadr is believed to occur during the last ten nights of Ramadan, particularly on the odd-numbered nights.
Possible signs of Laylatul Qadr
While the exact night is hidden, some signs have been mentioned in Islamic teachings:
âĸ The night feels calm, peaceful, and serene.
âĸ The atmosphere is neither too hot nor too cold.
âĸ The sky appears clear and tranquil.
âĸ The sun the following morning rises softly without strong rays.
What should we do during these nights?
Since we do not know exactly which night it is, Muslims are encouraged to increase their worship throughout the last ten nights:
âĸ Perform extra prayers, especially tahajjud.
âĸ Recite and reflect on the Qurâan.
âĸ Make sincere duâa and ask Allah for forgiveness.
âĸ Increase dhikr (remembrance of Allah).
âĸ Give charity if possible.
One of the most recommended supplications to recite during these nights is:
Allahumma innaka âafuwwun tuhibbul âafwa faâfu âanni.
âO Allah, You are Most Forgiving and love to forgive, so forgive me.â
May Allah allow us to witness Laylatul Qadr and accept our prayers and efforts during these blessed nights.
