ARS AEVI PROJECT
MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART SARAJEVO
Ars Aevi is a unique project of founding a museum of contemporary art in Sarajevo, which is being developed as an expression of collective will and ethical cooperation of prominent international artists, curators and museums of contemporary art. The core of the project is the Ars Aevi Collection, whose founders are renowned international and regional artists. The Collection is formed by applying an original model of cooperation with museums, centres and foundations of contemporary art, whose artistic directors lead the process by selecting artists-founders of the Ars Aevi Collection from all parts of the world. They then curate exhibitions of the selected artworks to form the Collection “nuclei”. From 1994, nuclei were formed in Milan, Prato, Venice, Ljubljana, Vienna, Bolognano, Istanbul, and Sarajevo. New nuclei of the Ars Aevi Collection will be created by partner institutions from Podgorica (2012), Belgrade (2012), Saint Etienne (2013), Zagreb (2013), Athens (2014) and Barcelona (2014). Ars Aevi’s strategy is permanent expansion of its founding network. In 1999, architect Renzo Piano joined Ars Aevi Project as the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and as the author of Ars Aevi Museum architectural designs. In 2002, he designed and constructed the Ars Aevi Bridge as the first completed element of the Ars Aevi Museum. He remains one of the leading supporters of this initiative.
