‎I’ve been hands-on with almost every detail in this house. Recently I made these shutters and window posts, I love maintaining the old traditional home and adding in the same flavor.
‎
‎It’s a mix of tradition and a touch of my own taste. My ancestors worked in the refinery and this is a typical workers home of the refinery. I love the history of my house/ gallery and maintaining all it's character and creating a space that feels warm, creative, and a little bit different.

FAME IS A MASK

This year, Marilyn Monroe would have turned a 100 years old. To honor her, I created this portrait for the MM100 Festival in Haarlem, the Netherlands.

Not as a symbol of glamour, but as a woman of duality. The image the world knows.
The truth we rarely see. Something very common in our social media world. Everything is fake and a mask. The vain ones become the "talented" ones. The real ones stand in the shadow. Only the brave ones share sadness, struggle and wrinkles.

Never was she remembered for her angelic voice or her profound acting skills. When you dive deeper you become to see she was a very smart talented lonely woman with depth and many talents because her heart knew pain. Would she have not been made a s*x symbol the general public would have reminded her as such.

This work is about what remains… when the mask shifts. Who has been real? Who has lived their life according to their own dreams? Who was strong enough to be "lonely" alone rather than being unhappy together. Who was real enough not to have children because they couldn't give them what they deserved. Who felt for the fame game? Marilyn struggled with all these things. Once you know her life story you realize she was a dope chick, a possible friend ❤️

Painted on Aruban newspaper, this piece carries my island within it, layered into her story, into the surface, into the silence beneath the fame. Always representing Aruba 🙌
