Inspired by a long distance flight to Canada and the animals observed there.

- Humans in flight-

Ready for lift off
Packed in like sardines
Roar rumble and woosh
In a tin can with wings

Long distance flight
I wiggle and squirm upright
I long to be sleeping
I'm not an owl in the night

Like a bear seeking salmon
I'm anticipating food
My claws rip open the box
To lighten my mood

I'm not even hungry
Just want a distraction
In-flight magazine
Not to my satisfaction

Human migration
In a man made metal nest
Packed together
And seldom rest

Long decent touch down
Humans reconnect with the land
A strange form of flight
Geese, will never understand

‘Still in pain'
Perplexed by the text
Call returned
Muffled sounds
Then no sound
Did she say 'Dead'?
Then silence
No response
Unresponsive
Increasing dread

Lucy set sail with friends
Adventure of a lifetime
No experience needed
No warnings heeded
Was this the end?

Unable to hide
From the horror
growing inside
Who's in pain?
Is someone dead?
It started to rain
Pending storm
Adds to fears
Tears shed

Silence broke
Familiar ring
Unknown number
What news will it bring?
Heart sink or sing?

Hi it's me
I’m home
I borrowed a phone
My battery died.
Boat trip was wild!
Dead calm, bit of rain
Home safe again
With silence I replied
Silent tears tried to hide
Sensing worry
Lucy said in hurry
Oh 'dead calm' it's a boaty word
Flat water, all ok onboard

Relief beyond belief
It was autocorrect
That caused my ship wreck
Tears of rain
Not pain
And needless grief

I declare in the Name Of Play.

Today I declare
(Standing tall on a chair)
We shall make a mess, nothing less
In the name of Play for today

Don't brush your hair
Shall wear no shoes
Jump in all the puddles
Between toes, feel mud ooze

Climb a tree
Roll down a hill
Watch the snails
Make silvery trails
Smell the flowers
Sing with the birds
Most beautiful song ever heard

Walk like a robot
Wearing only boxes
Painted with vegemite
Spots and wiggles
Laugh out loud
Only stop for a giggle
Listen quietly
To snap crackle pop
Watch the jelly wobble
Eat the lot

Then go to bed
and dream of the day
When a mess was made
In the name of play

Those who don't obey the rules
Shall sit in a corner
With a silly hat
Stuck to the chair sticky tape
Lots of bits, there is no escape
Eating soup only with a fork
Singing only, must not talk
Except to confess
That play is better
With a little mess

Today I declare
(Still standing on a chair)

All hands on deck
For in between
Hardworking play
It's time to clean

Tomorrow will be
Wishy Washy Water Play Day
