ANNOUNCING LONGING - the first concert of the Winchelsea Music Season

Rural Arts Victoria is opening the very first Winchelsea Music Season with Longing, a concert that explores every shade of the sentiment through the beauty and power of the soprano repertoire. From nostalgia to hope, reflection to desire, this program traces the emotional landscape that only the human voice can illuminate.

It’s the perfect way to mark the 100th anniversary of the Globe Theatre—a moment that invites us to look back on a century of stories while imagining the next hundred years of music and community in this historic space.

Featuring three artists with genuine ties to our region—Helen Ling, Zinaida Campion, and David Stewart—this is a rare chance to hear exceptional local talent in a venue that means so much to Winchelsea.

For those travelling in, this is the kind of evening that makes the drive worthwhile: a heritage theatre at a milestone moment, a heartfelt program, and a season-opening concert that sets the tone for something truly special!

Saturday 2 May, 5pm — Globe Theatre, Winchelsea
Tickets at the door or via TryBooking. Adult $50, concession $40, school students free.

LAUNCHING THE WINCHELSEA MUSIC SEASON
Rural Arts Victoria is delighted to share the beginning of the Winchelsea Music Season — a new program shaped by the heritage, landscape, and creative energy of our region.

Under the direction of our Creative Director, Zinaida Campion, the Season will bring music into the heart of Winchelsea in ways that feel grounded, intimate, and deeply connected to place. Raised here and inspired by the legacy of Marjorie Lawrence, Zinaida brings a vision that blends classical artistry with the character of rural Victoria.
The Winchelsea Music Season is designed to grow slowly and intentionally — one meaningful event at a time. You’ll see performances that honour our town’s history, collaborations that highlight regional talent, and opportunities for guest artists to experience the warmth and generosity of our community.

Whether you’re local, visiting from nearby towns, or travelling from Melbourne, we invite you to be part of this new chapter. There’s something special about music in a place with this much story behind it.

More details soon — this is just the beginning.

INTRODUCING THE CREATIVE DIRECTOR

I’m Zinaida Campion — a classical soprano, vocal coach, and arts leader raised in Winchelsea, and the Founder & Creative Director of Rural Arts Victoria. My artistic life began here in our rural community, shaped by the legacy of fellow Winchelsea‑born soprano Marjorie Lawrence, whose extraordinary career continues to inspire my work.

My training has taken me from early studies with Lee Abrahmsen to the Windfire Vocal Scholar program and Victorian Opera’s VOYCE, and I’ve performed across Geelong, Melbourne, and rural Victoria. Alongside my performance work, I serve as Vice President of Geelong Opera and Artistic Director of the Winchelsea Music Season.
With Rural Arts Victoria, I’m building an organisation that grows from the character of rural places — their history, their creativity, and the way communities come together around shared experiences.

For locals, this means seeing our own stories reflected in high‑quality arts events and having opportunities to participate in something that feels genuinely ours.

For those visiting from further afield, it offers a chance to experience the depth and distinctiveness of regional culture — the kind of atmosphere that can only come from towns with strong heritage and strong community spirit.

And for guest artists, Rural Arts Victoria is a place to create meaningful work in settings that are rich with history, generosity, and artistic possibility. It’s an invitation to collaborate in environments where audiences listen deeply, where heritage becomes part of the performance, and where artists are valued and supported.

This is an exciting new chapter for the arts in regional Victoria, and I’m thrilled to share it with you!

Rural Arts Victoria has just launched its new social media pages, and we’re delighted to welcome you. Our mission is to bring high‑quality arts experiences to regional communities, beginning here in Winchelsea, while creating meaningful, paid opportunities for artists across Victoria.

We exist to honour local heritage, support creative talent, and build a vibrant cultural life that belongs to everyone. Our work spans classical music, performance, community storytelling, and site‑specific arts projects that celebrate the landscapes and history of our region.

The Winchelsea Music Season is our flagship initiative — a new fine‑music program designed to showcase exceptional artists in the places that make this region unique. Alongside this, we’re developing regional arts projects that connect people, stories, and creativity across the state.

At the heart of everything we do is a belief that regional communities deserve world‑class arts, close to home, and that artists deserve to be valued, respected, and fairly paid for their work. We’re committed to building a sustainable arts ecosystem where creativity can thrive.

Thank you for joining us at the very beginning of this journey. We look forward to sharing more as Rural Arts Victoria grows.
