🖼️ Althea Mallee, Phoenix Rising, Acrylic and oil oncanvas, 40cm x 50cm

🔸Artist Statement:

Althea Mallee’s works explore shared threads that are both cultural and introspective. Influenced by spiritual philosophy and the role myths play in modern society, her art explores a deep curiosity about coexistence to redefine wisdom through the ages. Dialogues surrounding utopian ideals become a quiet reminder of the ever-present possibilities that emerge through awareness, compassion, and a collective reimagining. Rooted in universal themes, her work evolves as it passes through the world, a vision expanding with each place, perspective, and encounter. From intimate fine art pieces to expansive public murals, her art inspires connection by breathing life into shared spaces, dissolving the illusion of separateness in which she believes conflicts arise.

🖼️ Carolyn O’Neill, Outback by the sea, Oil on canvas, 140 x 82 x 5

🔸Artist Statement:

This is my most recent body of work which seeks to capture the resilience and grit of the arid landscape of the Flinders Ranges region. These works are multi layered in oil mixed with mediums and were all painted together in varying intervals to allow time for drying in between sessions.
It is not the literal landscape that I seek to convey, but rather it’s rawness and untamed beauty.

🖼️ John Panayiotou, Sedate me, Digital photograph, 41 × 61 cm

🔸Artist Statement:

My practice is a social and political critique of systems that suppress, erase, or condition human identity. Rather than documenting the visible world, I use photography to give form to what is felt but often unseen. The titles are integral to the work, emotional ciphers that draw the viewer into the conceptual field.

This body of work examines the internal mechanisms of psychological suppression and the external forces that shape them. These images follow the slow dissolving of the self. The first figure is the shadowed self, shaped quietly under pressure. Speech falters next, communication collapsing, the mind folding in. A hand presses into stillness, pleading for less feeling, less noise. Then the world intrudes – a symbol to be worn, a role to inhabit, a weight taken on. The final piece carries what remains: the tiredness, the residue, the shared darkening between you and me.

🖼️ Liza Merkalova, Blue cup in lilac afternoon, Oil on Linen, 115 x 98 x 5

🔸Artist Statement:

While working on this composition in my studio, I had a wonderful revelation by not only depicting the objects in front of me while painting the still life, but seeing myself from afar while doing so. This ‘out of body’ experience led me to the fuller comprehension of the density of the world, and the ability to observe it without blending in. It opened up the possibility to become an observer and emotional documenter of everything around.

🖼️ Linda Baldock, Sunshine and Berry Friends, Pastel pencil and sticks on paper, 15x 11 inches

🔸Artist Statement:

My still life artwork focuses on the simple beauty of fruit and vegetables. When I was younger, I never really appreciated still life art and didn’t understand why artists chose everyday objects as subjects. As I got older, I began to see the skill, patience, and beauty in this style of art, and it has become something I truly enjoy creating.
Realism is an important part of my work. I enjoy carefully observing each subject and recreating it as accurately as I can. I focus on proportion, texture, colour, and light to give the fruit and vegetables a natural and believable presence. My aim is to make familiar objects feel fresh and engaging through close attention to detail.
Through my work, I hope to show that beauty can be found in everyday things. My aim is to create honest, timeless artworks that encourage people to slow down, look closer, and appreciate the simple objects around them.
