Once again a wonderful evening at Café Philosophique, exploring the body through art, science, writing and conversation!

We marvelled at all those breaths we take, and how functional yet forgotten our elbow is. We acknowledged our aging bodies and wondered how we can embrace our aches and wrinkles a little more.

Big thanks to Cathy Mackay for facilitating our drawing workshop, and to everyone who showed up, shared and listened.

We’ll be back at the Bridge Hotel Werribee, on Wednesday Sept 16, exploring humour!

See you then ☺️

This shift in thinking from our bodies as a possession to our bodies as who we are, what shapes how we move and experience the world, can make a huge difference to how we think (and criticise) ourselves.

Help us to explore these ideas, and more, tomorrow night at Cafe Philosophique: Bodies.

No wonder I’m so tired all the time 😅

Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things. They take in food, make energy and help the body grow and heal. And we’re making new ones all the time.

The body is truely amazing! Help us explore it more at our next Café Philosophique on Wednesday August 19, 6:30pm at

They’ll be sketching, science, writing and conversation!

What is Café Philosophique?

A philosophy café (café philosophique) is an informal public gathering where people meet in cafes, pubs, or online spaces to discuss philosophical questions and everyday life topics. Founded in Paris in 1992 by Marc Sautet, these sessions make philosophy accessible to everyone without requiring prior academic knowledge.

We take our own twist on this. Alongside the conversation, we also use the arts (and chocolate brownies) to delve deep, reflecting creatively on this nights theme.

Come check it out for yourself!

Nietzsche stated that “without music, life would be a mistake” and I couldn’t agree more.

It moves us to tears and to dance. It can change our behaviour and mood, forms identities and influences decisions.

Plato was well aware of its power stating there was no instrument as potent because “rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul”.

Aristotle saw music as a form of therapy through the catharsis one experiences when listening to it. By evoking different emotions, such as sadness, anger and courage, music allows us to safely experience these states - allowing us to purge these intense emotions, restoring the soul to a balanced state of equilibrium.

Well, what a gift it is!

And last Wednesday we paid homage to its place in our lives.

A big thanks to Carlie Mills for facilitating our improvised singing workshop, nomad_wm for his amazing poetry and song, and to everyone who showed up and shared their ideas, energy and creativity.

Don’t miss our next session as we explore the relationships we hold with our bodies.

To help us explore the role of music in our lives we’ll kick things off with a circle singing workshop.

Led by Carlie Mills the workshop is an uplifting, interactive exploration of what's possible for you and your voice, as we create new music together.

Drawing on practices of Circle Singing (Bobby McFerrin, USA), The Vocal River (Rhiannon Music, USA), and Música do Círculo (Brazil), Carlie will guide the group to create pieces of music from scratch, working with whatever inspiration is in the space.

Expect fun, play, deep listening, and delight.

No experience needed & all voices welcome!!
