Being a Thinker in Outdoor Education means pausing to reflect, asking questions, and considering different perspectives. Thinkers plan their actions carefully, learn from past experiences, and stay curious about the natural world around them. They connect ideas, explore possibilities, and think critically before stepping into action.

Q: What is a peak body for outdoor activities? (explained so easily a 5yo would get it).

A: Imagine all the people who love playing outside - like hiking, camping, climbing, biking, or paddling in rivers. Now imagine there’s a big friendly helper who looks after all those people and makes sure everyone plays safely, has fun, and follows the rules. That big helper is called a peak body.

Here’s what the peak body - aka Outdoors Queensland - does:
🛡️ Keeps everyone safe! Like reminding people to wear helmets or bring water.
📣 Speaks up for outdoor fun! We talk to the government and say, “Hey! Let’s protect nature and make more parks!”
📚 Teaches people! We help kids and grown-ups learn how to enjoy the outdoors the right way.
🤝 Brings people together! Like clubs, schools, and groups who all love the outdoors. (Did you know we're a membership organisation?)..and a whole lot more, but we'll get to that another day.

So, a peak body is like the boss of outdoor fun. We make sure everyone can enjoy nature safely and happily.

In Courage Plus, being a problem solver in Outdoor Education means using creativity, persistence, and practical thinking to tackle challenges as they come up.

When fishing, this might look like:

Noticing and adapting — if fish aren’t biting, changing your bait, moving to a new location, or adjusting how deep your line is.

Thinking through setbacks — calmly untangling a line, fixing a reel, or finding a safe way to retrieve a snagged hook.

Using teamwork — asking for ideas from others, sharing gear, or helping a friend land their catch.

Making decisions under pressure — choosing whether to stay put or try a different spot before time runs out.

In Courage Plus, problem solvers don’t give up when things get tricky. They test ideas, learn from what happens, and keep going until they find a solution. It’s about meeting a challenge head-on and finding a way forward—on the water or anywhere outdoors.
