Water Corporation has partnered with NGIWA for over 20 years to deliver waterwise programs in the garden industry, so partnering for the Perth Garden Show was a natural next step.
When the garden show launched about 50 years ago, most of the water supplied to Perth fell from the sky. Since then, there has been a 15-20 per cent reduction in rainfall, leading to an 80 per cent reduction in streamflow into Perth dams.
While new water sources such as desalination and groundwater replenishment have helped to keep waterfrom taps flowing, they can only produce so much and with such little rainfall in recent years, water is becoming more and more scare.
Greenspaces are key to our city’s liveability, and so is responsible water use. Water Corporation is looking forward to being involved in WA’s premier garden event and challenging the WA gardening community to do both – creating amazing waterwise Perth gardens.
