These shots don’t even begin to capture the impact of this piece, entitled ‘Dance IS Political’.

I created this structured improvisation as a shout out to Palestinian artists, whose joy and artistry continue to shape Arabic dance. With elements of Fusion, Mahrahganat and nods to Palestinian Dabke, this piece highlighted soulful strength at its core.
I’m really proud of it and I’m proud of myself for taking on the task of learning and performing elements of Palestinian Dabke (while 5 months pregnant).

For this festival I’ll be presenting Cairo Club: Mahraganat, a look at modern music within the Egyptian club scene, fun combos and a quick look at the use of hand gesture and language.
Ever been confused with the difference between Egyptian Pop, Shaabi or Mahraganat,
or if you’d just like to learn some fun modern Egyptian music and hot new combos that you can bust out with your friends, then this is the workshop for you!
