I am often asked when the right time is to casting their newborns hands. The answer is, there is no right or wrong time. Babies can be cast from one day old. Those little lines and creases grow with them, so be it a week, a month, 6 months they are just as detailed.
Let me explain a bit about the process. Itās very quick, which is a massive plus! I mix together powder and water and make sure your little one is nice and settled before popping their hand or foot in the container. After around 45-60 seconds, the alginate firms up and cast has been taken. A feed for little ones usually helps settle themš¤±š¼. Babies donāt have to be sleeping for this but a bonus if they are. Iāve cast many an awake baby and the casts are just as perfect.
Toddlers can be that little bit trickier, mainly because they like to move - theyāre toddlers, this is totally normal. A snack, favourite toy, iPad etc usually help take their mind of it and failing that, I can entertain and sing (but no one wants that)!!
Once casts are taken and filled with stone, they are then left to dry for around 3 weeks before I begin tidying up/sanding, ready for painting and framing.
