Ultra-Luxury vs Regular Cruise Lines 🚢Which one is right for you?

Not all cruises are created equal. While both offer incredible holidays, the experience can be very different. Here’s a quick comparison: Regular Cruise Lines
• Large ships carrying around 2,000–7,000 guests
• Packed with exciting attractions, entertainment and activities
• More cabin categories to suit different budgets
• Bigger shows, water parks and family-friendly fun
• You’ll often need to use the cruise app to book dining, shows and activities Ultra-Luxury Cruise Lines • Smaller, more intimate ships with around 400–800 guests
• Every cabin is a spacious suite
• A much higher crew-to-guest ratio (often close to 1:1)
• Staff quickly learn your name and your favourite drink or dining preferences
• No long queues and it’s easy to get a table in the restaurant
• More refined dining with extensive menus, premium ingredients, and favourites like steak and lobster included at no extra cost
• No buffet for dinner – expect elegant à la carte dining
• A quieter, more relaxed atmosphere
• Smaller ships can visit unique ports that many larger ships simply can’t access

💡 Something many people don’t realise: The lead-in fare on an ultra-luxury cruise can sometimes be similar to a higher-category suite on a mainstream cruise line. The difference is in what’s included and the style of the experience. There’s no “better” option—only the one that’s right for your travel style.

Whether you love Broadway-style entertainment and endless activities or prefer personalised service and a boutique luxury experience, there’s a cruise that’s perfect for you.

Thinking about your next cruise? I’d love to help you compare the options and find the best fit for your budget and travel style.

🚢 Before You Unpack: 7 Things Every Cruiser Should Do in Their Cabin

You’ve finally stepped onboard and it’s tempting to start unpacking straight away. But taking just 10 minutes to do these simple checks can make your cruise safer, smoother and more enjoyable.

âś… 1. Check your cabin door locks properly Make sure your door closes securely and locks as it should. âś… 2. Lock away your valuables Place your passport, spare cash, jewellery and other valuables in the cabin safe as soon as you arrive.
✅ 3. Take a photo of what’s in your safe A quick photo on your phone helps you remember exactly what you’ve stored, especially before disembarkation.
âś… 4. Know your muster station Find your assigned muster station and walk the route from your cabin so you know exactly where to go in an emergency.
âś… 5. Locate your life jackets Most cruise lines keep them in your cabin (some no longer do), so take a moment to check where they are and read any safety information provided.
âś… 6. Check for onboard offers Many cruise lines have embarkation-day specials, including discounted spa treatments, dining packages or drink offers. These can be great value if you book early.
âś… 7. Review your cabin and loyalty perks Check everything is working, make sure your luggage has arrived, and confirm any loyalty benefits, welcome gifts or onboard credits have been applied to your account.

A few minutes spent checking these things can save you time, stress and money later in your cruise. What’s the first thing you do when you walk into your cruise cabin?

Mediterranean Cruise Tips: Everything You Need to Know Before You Book

Dreaming of cruising the Mediterranean? Here are my top tips to help you make the most of your holiday!
✅ Choose the right region • Western Mediterranean – Perfect for first-time cruisers with iconic ports like Barcelona, Rome and the French Riviera. • Eastern Mediterranean – Ideal if Greece and the Greek Islands are on your bucket list. • Adriatic Cruises – Discover the stunning coastline of Croatia, Montenegro and beyond.
✅ Check the itinerary For your first Mediterranean cruise, choose an itinerary with more ports and fewer sea days so you can experience as much as possible. ✅ Look carefully at embarkation and disembarkation ports Arrive at least one day before your cruise and stay a few days afterwards. Otherwise, you could miss some of Europe’s most incredible cities.
✅ Not every ship docks in the city centre Allow for travel time from the port: • Venice – many ships now use ports around 2 hours from Venice. • Rome (Civitavecchia) – around 1 hour. • Athens (Piraeus) – around 45 minutes. • London (Southampton) – around 1.5 hours.
âś… Pre-book your shore excursions Many ports have limited transport options, and organised tours can sell out well before departure.
âś… Check visa requirements Some Mediterranean itineraries visit multiple countries with different entry requirements, so check them well before you travel.
✅ Know the best time to cruise • Main season: April to October • July and August are the busiest months, with very hot and humid weather. • A few cruise lines also operate Mediterranean cruises outside the main season, often with fewer crowds and great value.
💡 Bonus Tip: Download the Cruise Globe app to keep track of every cruise you’ve completed and build your personal cruising map.

Planning a Mediterranean cruise can be overwhelming, but choosing the right itinerary makes all the difference. If you’d like help finding the perfect cruise, I’d love to help.
