Another shipment disappearing deep into the mines today… ⛏️🐟

A crew of Blue Phantoms, Blue Panaques, and Gold Nuggets have been unearthed and packed off to their new underground kingdoms.

Fitting really… because the word Panaque has become legendary among fish keepers for one thing:
turning driftwood into absolute mountains of sawdust like tiny aquatic miners working overtime. 😅

The Blue Phantoms glide through the shadows like spirits of the caverns…
The Gold Nuggets sparkle brighter than treasure veins…
And the Panaques? Well… every mine needs a few heavy machinery operators. 😂

There’s something special about a school of Honey Blue Eye Rainbows gliding through a planted aquarium. ✨

Small in size, but absolutely packed with personality and colour. Their electric blue eyes catch the light like tiny gems, while the warm honey-gold tones through the body give them a natural elegance that stands out without overpowering a tank.

One of the best things about these fish is how peaceful and active they are. Constantly schooling, displaying, and interacting with one another, they bring movement and life into an aquarium in a way photos never fully capture.

“Call me Ishmael…”

For there are few creatures in this world capable of stirring the soul of a fish keeper quite like the arrival of a beast destined to become legend.

In this line of work, rare fish pass through my hands more often than most could imagine. Wonders from distant waters arrive and depart like ships upon the sea, and over time a man becomes accustomed to marvels.

But every now and then… a creature appears that reminds you exactly why you fell in love with this world to begin with.

For a long while now, there has been one fish lingering in the back of my mind.

Not simply a fish… but a leviathan.

Many know the great display tank within the shop. The black backdrop. The red, white, and black colours standing proud behind the glass.

And the question always remained: what creature should reign within it?

Because every great fish store deserves a resident beast. Something unforgettable. Something that commands a room the moment it moves.

I considered giant gouramis — those waterborne dogs with personalities larger than life itself. Perhaps one day they shall still roam these waters.

But deep down, I wanted something singular.

A monster. A feature. A creature rarely seen and never forgotten.

Once before, I attempted the path of the mighty red tail catfish, yet fortune was cruel to that endeavour. One never survived the journey, another arrived burdened long before transport began.

But the sea teaches every keeper the same lesson: sometimes the hunt must begin again.

And this time… the hunt led to something different.

Not darkness… but something ghostly.

Something pale as moonlight beneath stormy water.

A platinum giant red tail catfish.

A white leviathan.

And before he was even found… his name had already been chosen.

So allow me to introduce the newest resident of Hook’D on Fish.

Moby.

Named for the monstrous size he shall one day become.

Moby… The White Whale. 🐋

Winter tank services hit a little differently when you walk into a home and instantly see just how loved an animal truly is. ❤️

This beautiful axolotl setup is honestly one of the rare tanks I’ve come across where the owners didn’t just “keep” an axolotl… they went above and beyond to help it thrive. A dedicated chiller system was installed purely to maintain the cooler temperatures axolotls need, and seeing that level of care always deserves recognition.

A few plumbing and line modifications later, and this system is running cleaner, neater, and more efficiently. These Eheim line connectors are fast becoming one of my favourite things to work with too. Compared to bulky PVC, they give such a slim, professional finish while still keeping everything practical and serviceable.

But the best part of today wasn’t the plumbing or the maintenance.

Hook’D on Fish was never just about servicing tanks. From the beginning, it’s always been about getting people “Hook’D on Fish” — and there’s no better way to do that than spending one-on-one time with the next generation of fish keepers. Teaching, explaining, and helping build confidence around animal care brings a completely different kind of reward that no sale ever could.

Servicing tanks is one thing.
Helping inspire future keepers is something special.

Another day of moving tanks….. 😅
Because apparently a 10x3x3ft in the wet is perfectly acceptable WHS protocol.
Rain, hail or shine — reliability is what we strive for, and today was no exception.
With an army of two, boarding and moving this beast was no easy task, but we got it delivered, positioned and ready for installation.
Have to say… this is definitely one of the nicest 10ft cabinets we’ve seen in a long while 👌
