Sometimes my mind still boggles when I think about the process, the journey, and everything I had to learn through years of trial, error, study and persistence to master this craft.
I’m incredibly grateful that I was given the opportunity to learn the art of creating.
And it all began with a little gift box from Theresa Brennan. 🙏
When Dad wound up Nissan, I went on a personal mission to create the perfect performance candle. 🕯️
When I lived in Perth, my monthly treat was buying a beautiful scented candle from Glasshouse. I’ve always loved things with strength — I’m a blue-cheese kind of girl! 😂 Strong flavours, strong fragrances, things that fill your senses.
But after moving out here, I tried several different candle companies that were available locally. They would smell wonderful in the shop, but time and time again, I was disappointed once I got them home.
I wanted a candle that actually performed.
Then came the final straw. I bought myself a $35 hand-poured candle from NSW on a rainy day, hoping it would lift my mood. Instead, it tunnelled, struggled to burn properly and eventually went out.
I remember thinking:
“I can do better.”
Because if candles could be made — surely I could learn how to make one properly.
And then came the question that started everything:
What actually makes a candle perform?
What does “triple scented” really mean?
Why do some candles fill an entire home with fragrance while others barely make it beyond the jar?
And so began a two-year-long hyperfixation. 😂
Two years of studying waxes, fragrance loads, wicks, vessels, curing, burn behaviour, hot throw, cold throw, formulation, testing, testing again… and then testing some more.
Every wax.
Every wick.
Every combination.
Every technique.
Trial and error. Failure and success. Starting again.
And an uncompromising determination to understand the craft rather than simply make a candle.
I am so incredibly proud to say:
I did it.
I achieved the goal I set for myself — to create the best-performing candle I possibly could.
Every candle in the PSALLO collection has been tested, challenged and refined.
Every one has had to earn its place.
Every candle is a champion. 🕯️🏆
This is the story behind the candles.
Not mass production.
Not simply fragrance poured into wax.
But two years of obsession, learning, craftsmanship and an absolute love of the art.
