There are moments in an artist's life when you stop and wonder where the path might lead.

Several years ago, I wasn't painting waves, writing articles, growing a community, or working on my first book. I was simply trying to find my way back to creativity.

Today, I look at paintings like this and realise that every brushstroke, every setback, every exhibition, every rejection, and every small victory has become part of the journey.

Art has taught me that progress rarely happens in giant leaps. It happens one painting, one lesson, one brave step at a time.

To everyone building something meaningful later in life—whether it's art, writing, a business, or a dream you've carried for years—keep going.

You may be closer than you think.

As my page continues to grow, I wanted to say thank you. 💕

Many people think supporting an artist means buying artwork, but often the smallest gestures make the biggest difference.

A like, comment, share, save, or recommendation to a friend helps my work reach people who may never have discovered it otherwise.

Thank you for being part of my creative journey and for helping me keep creating.

Success comes from showing your Art to the right Audience.

Yesterday I packed up my exhibition early.

I sold one small keepsake, had two prints stolen, collected three email addresses, and learned a lesson that every artist, writer, and entrepreneur eventually faces.

Success isn't just about creating good work.

Success comes from selecting your audience.

It reminded me of the famous Joshua Bell experiment, where one of the world's greatest violinists was almost completely ignored while playing in a busy subway station.

The music hadn't changed.

The audience had.

Sometimes the problem isn't your work.

Sometimes you're simply standing in the wrong village

All artists, creatives, business owners should read this. Read about the social experiment with the world's greatest violinist playing a 300 years old violin worth 3 million, busking in a subway.

Yesterday was a strange day, good bad and indifferent all wrapped together. Self Doubt creeps in but got sent to the naughty corner and I slept 1 hr. Oh dear, I have a full weekend too.

If you have had one of through days too Read the Mercury Retrograde and Self Doubt as an Artist

The Collection of Joy

As artists, we often spend years searching for the next achievement, the next exhibition, the next milestone.

Yet joy rarely arrives in the grand moments.

It is usually found in the small things.

A warm croissant and coffee on a cold morning.

The scent of lavender drifting through the garden.

A handwritten note.

A bicycle ride through a quiet street.

A memory of Paris.

While preparing for this weekend's exhibition, I rediscovered a collection of tiny watercolour paintings I created several years ago and never finished.

Looking at them reminded me that joy doesn't have to be complicated.

Sometimes it arrives in the smallest treasures.

Perhaps that is the real art of living.

Not waiting for happiness to appear one day in the future, but noticing the beauty that already surrounds us.

What small thing brought you joy today?

💛

The Misty Pond
From the Eroded Tides Series

Carved by time and shaped by the quiet persistence of water, The Misty Pond explores the beauty found in erosion and transformation.

Inspired by the tafoni sandstone formations of the Australian coastline, this painting reflects the countless journeys that leave their mark upon both the landscape and ourselves. Weathered cavities, softened edges, and flowing water become symbols of life's experiences, each one shaping the surface while revealing hidden depths beneath.

A gentle waterfall descends into a secluded rockpool, inviting a moment of stillness and reflection. The soft veils of mist, warm sandstone tones, and luminous water create a sense of peace, reminding us that change is rarely sudden. Instead, it arrives slowly, through countless small moments that, over time, transform both rock and spirit.

Part of Penelope Jayne's Eroded Tides series, The Misty Pond celebrates resilience, impermanence, and the quiet beauty that emerges when we allow life's journeys to shape us.

Finished and ready for this exhibition at Avoca Surf Club this coming weekend Saturday and Sunday 20th and 21st June, part of the iconic 5 Lands Walk.
