For over 50 years, the Bathurst Lions Club has been quietly making a real difference in our community. 💛

Through their dedication to service, they’ve supported countless charities and local causes—always giving back and helping those who need it most.

It’s inspiring to see a group so committed to turning community support into real action. Here’s to many more years of making a difference! 👏

Often they help out when no other charity or organisation will when many other others are fighting through the red and green tape jumping through hoops the lines club and getting on
With the challenges
helping the community

sadly many of their members are in some bad health and becoming seniors. More volunteers are needed. Never been a better time to join your Local Lyons club.

Red Bull, an Aboriginal man from the mountain country surrounding O’Connell in the early 19th century, is remembered in local accounts. Oral history suggests he was a formidable figure who resisted the encroachment of settlers onto traditional lands during a tumultuous period for Aboriginal communities.

Some narratives allege that Red Bull and a small group of men were involved in the killing of several settlers and the theft of up to 500 sheep. This act was perceived by Aboriginal people of the time as a form of resistance and self-preservation rather than criminality.

These incidents are said to have involved approximately seven men, operating in the rugged terrain west of the Blue Mountains, where conflicts between settlers and local groups were becoming increasingly frequent.

Although the precise details differ across accounts and are challenging to verify comprehensively, Red Bull is frequently referred to as a symbol of Aboriginal resistance
one of the numerous warriors who valiantly fought to safeguard their Country, food sources, and cultural heritage during the frontier era.

His narrative is an integral part of the broader narrative of the challenges faced by Aboriginal communities across New South Wales as settlement encroached upon the mountains and river systems that had sustained their ancestors for countless generations.
