🎧 Some gigs you just don’t forget… ❤️
Last Saturday night I had the pleasure of DJing an amazing 50th birthday party on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, and after 41 years of DJing, this one genuinely stood out.
I arrived around 3:30pm to bump in for a 5pm start. After navigating the steep driveway, the birthday man came straight out and said, “Mate, you’ve got a lot of equipment there let me give you a hand.”
So there we were, the birthday man helping the DJ carry in his gear… followed immediately by handing me a cold beer! 😂🍺
Then throughout the night his beautiful wife kept coming over every 10–15 minutes:
“Dino, can I get you a drink? Have you eaten? You’re too skinny! You need to eat! Don’t be shy!” 😂
She explained that in their Hungarian culture, if you come into their home whether you’re family, a friend, the DJ, photographer, caterer or anyone else you get looked after and you get fed. You leave with a full stomach! ❤️
And they certainly lived up to that. When I finally packed up, they even sent me home with THREE plates of food to eat on Sunday! 😂❤️ Now that’s hospitality!
In 41 years behind the decks, I’ve played at countless venues and private homes. Sometimes you’re lucky to be offered a glass of water. These beautiful people were the complete opposite. Their hospitality, generosity and kindness were something special.
The party kicked off at 5pm and we were still going just before 2am, when the boys in blue finally decided we’d had enough fun for one night! 🚔😂 Otherwise, I reckon I’d still be there playing now!
What a party. What a family. What beautiful people.
It reminded me that after all these years, it’s not always the venue, the equipment or even the music that makes a gig memorable.
It’s the people. ❤️
Still buzzing from this one. 🎧🕺💃
Happy 50th, mate thanks for having me be part of such a brilliant night! 🥂🎉
