Tonight was one of those beautifully strange, spontaneous, imperfect, magical little nights that reminds me exactly why I’m doing what I’m doing with Community Sing Circle.
A large home living room full of people, cushions on the floor, dogs wandering around, incense, sage, Palo Santo, maracas, little drums, bells, unusual instruments, animal noises, laughter, singing, dancing, shaking, clapping and people just having a go.
No polished performance.
No perfect structure.
No need to be “good” at anything.
Just humans making sound together.
Some people were musicians. Some people weren’t. Some people spoke English, some people spoke Spanish and somehow the whole thing just worked.
There was something so beautiful about watching music become a shared language in the room. Messy, playful, soulful, silly, alive.
Thank you so much to the gorgeous soul Olivia behind for opening up such an incredible space and creating such a warm, wild, creative little gathering in her home sweet home.
Thank you to the beautiful musicians who brought the room to life, and to every single person who sang, shook a maraca, banged a drum, danced, made a noise, laughed, listened or simply joined in.
This is the kind of thing I want more of.
Tiny little pockets of music, connection, play and community.
The kind of nights where nobody has to be impressive.
You just have to show up, join in, and let yourself be part of the sound.
Feeling very inspired tonight.
