🌹 vegan Beetroot Rose steam buns 🌹

We call these “mantou”.
And because those fussy eaters do not like vegetables too much we decided to juice a beetroot to make these buns. Hidden perfectly and very romantic for myself to indulge in 😆

If they didnt get you flowers you can get flowers on your table easily now 😉

To make these:
1cup of beetroot juice
1 teaspoon active dry yeast
2.5 table spoon sugar
350g plain flour

To make:
1. Add yeast, beetroot juice and sugar in mixing bowl and wait for yeast to bubble.
2. Add flour to mixture and mix on low speed on stand mixer
3. When ingredients form a smooth dough, pull out and let it rest for 5 mins. Cover with cloth.
4. Roll flat and cut out round discs.
5. Lay 6 round disc over each other, then roll it up like what I did in the video.
6. Cut it in the middle and place in steamer tray.
7. Let dough rise slightly in warm area.
8. Steam for 14mins.
9. You can enjoy these warm or store these in the fridge and reheat for up to 4 days! (If they last that is)

❤️Happy International woman’s day❤️

Wanting to send love here and far for all woman, thank you for giving it your all everyday. And especially to the woman in or helping those affected right now. My heart is with all of you.

And for those that have been here for long enough know I am a nurse by day and baker by night. Now adding mother to that title, I try to squeeze whatever little bit of time I have left to create content. (Yes im still studying my masters too 😭 )

There is focus on this year. A bias I have long lived under is what profession I need to be in as an asian growing up. This topic has been around for a long time, but how many of us still get pressured to go into a field or study something we really do not enjoy?! And yes as a fully grown adult this still crosses my mind at time and make me doubt my entire existence.

As an asian, I am constantly told been a lawyer, a pharmacist, a medical researcher, a doctor, engineer would make me successful. They are great professions don’t get me wrong, but the typical asian parenting in the last few decades is heavily based on educational professions. So much so, many of us feel inadequate if we achieve less.

So I became a “nurse”. My marks in my year 12 studies didn’t reflect enough for my to get into those other “successful” career paths 😂 🤣

But also luckily for me, I have grown to love my nursing journey, so much so I am now perusing my masters in nursing. I wanted a pathway that allows me to help ppl, to continue to learn and also time away for that balanced lifestyle.

There is so much stigma around success based around what we are in our 9-5 jobs. And the pressures we put on our kids to “learn” and to achieve “milestones” from whats set from our society.

So today I want to break the bias on success.

We are ENOUGH, we are WORTHY.
No matter what position you play. Don’t force yourself to learn something or be involved in something you heart is not invested in.
I want to CELEBRATE YOU for finding whats right for you!

If you are still reading, check out the face Naomi is pulling in that first photo 😆

❤️ 🐻 Love day 🐻 ❤️

Recently I read in a mummy forum, where a mum asks other mums opinion on whether she was over reacting or not. Her 6yr old son went shopping with her in , where he found some pink lolly rings.
The son asked his mum if he can buy 10 of them to gift them to his good friends at school. Mum thought this was very sweet of the son, but the father said “this is ridiculous he can not gift them these pink rings, valentines is for lovers”.
Naturally the mum was upset at the dad as she thought how generous her son is already at that age and more importantly how great it is that he has 10 friends he considers close at that age.

St valentine has created a tradition for the 14th feb for lovers, But bn able to find amazing friends and ones that you can love is very rare. So today we celebrate LOVE. Love of friendship, love of family, just Love.

O and we made some bear cookies. Will post a reels and recipe soon 😃 🐻

🧨年年有餘 🧨

Chinese new year is such an amazing time to celebrate with family. Although diff for us this yr as covid separates a few of us, we are making these coy fish dumplings to make up for it. Kids love it and I had so much fun watching them swim in the pot. I wonder how they will look pan fryed 🤔

If you grew up in asia, you will know all about 各仔, 瓜子 and 年糕. If you don’t know what they are you need to try it once! So google it.

For now, try this recipe out. Its super easy. I will upload in the stories/reels if i can figure it out without going past that 60sec time limit, a how to visually 😃

Recipe is in the photos.
All the tools you need is cordless mini chopper, butterknife, small rolling pin, chopsticks!

Happy Mid Autumn Festival! 中秋節快樂

Wanted to add abit of texture to the chewy sensation and wanted to mimic the yolk component to the mooncake body. Popcorn is light enough and looks like the yolk too! Surprisingly yummy paired with mochi snow skin and black sesame goodness.

Either make your own black sesame paste or there are some at asian groceries.
Chocolate coated popcorn (to ensure the popcorn remains fresh and crunchy, get the ones from . They stock them at big W and Kmart.

Will do a recipe soon 🥮

🐣 Salted egg custard cream puff.

Lock down has not been easy. Home schooling proofing to be the most challenging.. I had some spare puff pastry from making sausage rolls so thought to whip up a super easy treat for a quick mid day pick me up.

This one is super easy!
1. Take puff pastry out of freezer, cut one sheet into 9 smaller squares. Place chocolate coated french fries and sandwich 2 sheets of squares together. This adds extra crunch to every bite. You can find this easily at or as well as their website.
2. Place on baking tray & baking paper and bake for 15 mins at 200c.
3. Whisk 300ml thicken cream with 40g of icing sugar until semi stiff peak.
4. Gently fold in salted egg yolk powder (you can find this at asian groceries) or just custard if thats easier to find.
5. Pipe cream into puffs once cooled.
6. Decorate and enjoy. Lasts in the fridge for 2-3 days. Best fresh obviously.

🍫 Rocky road delight 🍫

This isn’t something new, but if you have 5 mins to spare and need a snack, this one is for you.
We have been in the kitchen more this lockdown and just wanted to make something effortless.
The best thing about rocky road is, if you dont enjoy the traditional one, you can put whatever you want in it and swap out the ingredients.
I opted for the traditional make today. Marshmellow softness teamed together with rose scented Turkish delight and crunchy peanuts.

Ingredients for the one I made that didnt last a day in this house:
200g milk chocolate
100g dark chocolate
2 bags turkish delight (sold in and too)
1 bag marshmallows
1/2 cup peanuts
1 packet of shortbread cookies
200g desiccated coconut (this is my secret ingredient)

Method:
- melt together your milk and chocolate over a double boiler. Once melted removed from stove.
- Whilst waiting for chocolate to melt lightly brown the coconut over a flat pan. Coconut pairs amazingly well with chocolate, the oils it gives off after roasting gives off amazing flavour on the bite. I think this makes the rocky road even more amazing.
- Prepare a 6 x 8 baking tray and line it with baking paper. If you dont have this you can use anything else, just be mindful the bigger the container, the shorter you rocky road slices will come out as there is more surface area to cover
- Mix in the coconut, peanuts and shortbread cookies into the melted chocolate.
- Lastly mix in turkish delight and marshmellows. These go in last as I dont want these to get too warm as they will melt. The rose scent from the turkish delight give the rocky road another level of intricacy.
- Pour mixture into baking tray
- Let set for 4-5 hrs depending on the room temp at the time
- Once set cut to desired portions
- HIDE ALL OF IT FROM YOUR KIDS AND MANCHILD OTHERWISE NOTHING LEFT FOR YOU THE NEXT DAY 😂
- Enjoy ☺️
