Just completed these two new paintings, continuing with my exploration of still life this week…

These weren’t easy - the shadows, the form and perspective… while also playing with the chiaroscuro technique, which is using dramatic contrasts between light and dark to create volume, depth and drama… a challenge and learning experience. I am really happy with these completed pieces though, the colours are elegant and dramatic yet peaceful. They will look amazing hanging side by side in black frames!!

I did a floral oil painting workshop yesterday which I loved, and this is my painting I did in the class. Pretty happy with it!

It has been many years since I have painted in a room full of artists, it was so fun and inspiring. It has also been many years since I have painted with oil paints… I feel like now I need to go and buy some oils and also I will paint more florals and still life… ?! Watch this space..

New work recently completed: “Winter’s Light at Gibraltar”

Inspired by a winter visit to Bowral, this painting captures the tension between icy air and radiant earth. I layered loose, impressionist brushwork over a fiery red underpainting, allowing that hidden warmth to vibrate through the cool landscape. By balancing the sharp light on bare trees with a glowing ground, I’ve sought to convey the physical sensation of the Highlands - the bite of the wind met by the sun’s persistent, earthy heat.
