Choirs often concentrate on pitch and blend, but it is rhythm that truly binds the music together. This workshop shifts the focus to cultivating a shared sense of pulse and equips singers with practical techniques to overcome rhythmic challenges in choral music

Come and join us as we prepare for our next concert, Pulse!

This dynamic choral concert brings together vibrant, rhythm-driven music inspired by dance, featuring both new and traditional works and showcasing diverse sounds from around the world. Interwoven with more reflective pieces, the program resonates with lively energy!

Our first rehearsal for this program starts on Monday June 30, 7:00-9:30pm at North Ryde Uniting Church.

Introducing the virtuosic bass soloist for Dynasty, Michael Lampard!

Michael has been a finalist in Placido Domingo’s international Operalia competition subsequently appearing as Guglielmo in Cosi Fan Tutte for the Rome Opera Festival. Appearances for Opera Australia include Schaunard in La Boheme, Dancairo and Morales in Carmen and Bartolo in The Barber Of Seville.

Roles for Victorian Opera include Alidoro in La Cenerentola while for Melbourne Opera his performances include Schaunard in Boheme, the Marquis in La Traviata, Biterolf in Tannhäuser, Di Luna in Il Trovatore, Fiorello and Ambrogio in The Barber Of Seville, Morales in Carmen, Zurga in The Pearlfishers, Killian in Freischütz and Kurwenal in Tristan & Isolde and has appeared for Gertrude Opera and the Australian Contemporary Opera Co. and Lyster Opera.

His concert appearances include being soloist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, at the 2023 Albury Chamber Music Festival and the lead role in the dramatised-song cycle, The Weight Of Light for the Canberra Street Theatre.

Our brilliant tenor soloist in Dynasty is Michael Kaufmann!

Michael Kaufmann is an Australian tenor, currently based in Sydney. Originally from Canberra, Michael completed a Masters degree in the Sydney Conservatorium Opera School in 2023. Michael’s performance credits cover opera, oratorio, cabaret, and musical theatre; including Arnalta in Sydney Conservatorium and NIDA’s 2023 production of The Coronation of Poppea, and Don Basilio in the Prague Summer Nights Festival’s production of The Marriage of Figaro. In 2025, Michael joined Pacific Opera Studio as a Young Artist Scholar, performing the title role in Handel’s Samson in collaboration with the Muffat Collective, and principal roles in their upcoming productions of Die Zauberflöte and La Bohème.

Our next soloist to introduce in Dynasty is the exceptional Angelique Tot!

Angelique Tot is a Melbourne-born mezzo-soprano and graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s Master of Performance (Opera). With a repertoire spanning from Handel to contemporary works, she has performed over 20 operatic roles in more than seven languages. Notable appearances include the title role in Bizet’s Carmen, Isabella in Rossini’s L’italiana in Algeri, Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Prince Charming in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina, and Tisbe in Rossini’s La Cenerentola.

Angelique has performed with some of Australia’s leading companies, including Victorian Opera, Melbourne Opera, Lyster Opera, and the Australian Contemporary Opera Company, where she was awarded the Henkell Fellowship. Her international experience includes Young Artist programs with the Berlin Opera Academy, the Eurasia Summer Acadmy, and the Jerusalem Lyric Opera Festival in both 2022 and 2023.

In addition to her operatic work, Angelique is an experienced oratorio soloist. She has appeared as the alto soloist in Vivaldi’s Gloria, Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Missa Brevis in F, and Gounod’s Messe Chorale. Concert work also includes the Australian premiere of Stabat Mater composed by Amaral Vieira. Angelique is looking forward to portraying Fenena in The Cooperative’s upcoming production of Nabucco later in 2025.

Introducing our astounding soloists for Dynasty! First up is the phenomenal Ailing Huang.

Ailing is a young soprano currently based in Sydney, Australia. She holds a Master of Music (M.Mus) and a Bachelor of Music (B.Mus) in Voice and Opera Performance from the China Conservatory of Music. After graduation, she moved to Australia with her family and became a member of Pacific Opera’s 2024 Young Artist Program.

Ailing’s operatic roles include Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel (Humperdinck), Larina in Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky), Pamina in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), Jinzi in Yuan Ye, Xue’er in Hong He Gu, and Miss Chen Bailu in Ri Chu. She also participated in the production of Die Fledermaus, directed by Gale Edwards, performing in the ensemble. In 2024, she was a soloist in Mozart’s Requiem at St. Stephen’s Church and Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Our next composer for Bach, Reimagined, is Ezra Hersch!

Ezra is a Sydney based composer, conductor, and pianist currently in his final year of a Bachelor of Music (Composition). His work has been performed and recorded by the Australian Youth Orchestra, Sydney Conservatorium New Music Ensemble, and The Solis Ensemble. He is one of the 2025 Sydney Philharmonia Choirs Conducting Fellows, assisting artistic staff across multiple programs. Ezra also serves as Choirmaster at The Great Synagogue and sings regularly with Gondwana Chorale.

Next up for Bach, Reimagined! Introducing Adriel Sukumar Composer

Adriel is currently in his fourth year of a Bachelor of Music (Composition) at the Sydney Conservatorium studying under Carl Vine. His music has been played by various ensembles including the Sydney Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, the Goldner String Quartet, and the choir and organists of Saint Patrick's Cathedral Parramatta, where he sings regularly as a Bass Scholar.
