A few months ago I was approached to illustrate a cover for a Polish hardcore/punk zine "Chaos W Mojej Głowie". When I did a research on the zine, I realized they've been championing illustrators by featuring artwork on every cover since the very beginning. My kind of people!
As far as the cover goes, I was given an absolute freedom. The only two parameters were: it has to be black and white, and it has to be tied to the hardcore/punk scene. The rest was up to me. I decided to go with an old piece named “Instilling the Attitude”, which I started years ago, but for some reason it had been put on a back burner. I felt this was the perfect time to revive it. It’s basically a depiction of a kid in a room, soaking in his older sibling's or parents' punk collection. Everything here was supposed to convey “punk”. I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t inject a whole lot of me in there. Apart from some of my favorite hardcore bands plastered on the walls, floor and shelves, and the bass guitar, I also smuggled some unrelated to punk scene stuff like basketball and some movies memorabilia.
I was also given lots of space on the pages of the zine. I've done many interviews for similar platforms, but the one I did this time, was definitely the most comprehensive. It's a 14-page feature titled (in translation) “Instead of pointing fingers and mock, I prefer converse, educate and inspire”. It includes many photos and illustrations. Given the nature of the magazine, a lot of questions were about my origin and connection to the hardcore/punk scene, but also surprisingly a lot was about my art, and my animal rights activism. Thanks again Janusz Krawczyk for this opportunity and generosity with the space in your awesome magazine. It was an honor.
