Bedrock Collective

Bedrock Collective Bedrock is about creating amazing art and music in a city that's trying to take us down.

Bedrock Collective was founded in 2016 after witnessing the state of the arts and music scene in Sydney. We have many friends who are artists and musicians trying to get their work out there, but without the platform or community to help them. Bedrock is about giving exposure to unheard of and deserving artists in Sydney, creating artistic collaboration and holding bold and stimulating events in i

nnovative performance spaces. Our name comes from this concept, building up artistic collaboration from the ground up, forming new ideas and means of artistic collaboration between visual artists, filmmakers and musicians. Our three founding members - Madeleine Mallis, Genevieve French and Claire Simpson - are all women, and have long been disappointed by the absence of female musicians on gig line-ups and in gallery spaces. At our events we propose at least a 60% quota of female and GNC artists and musicians. We want people to come to these events and be surprised by the music and art on offer, to buy some new pieces and walk away with a new found love for a passionate artistic community.

"My venue has been the first to fall but it won’t be the last. Live music is the lifeblood of our industry and integral to our cultural identity. The deafening silence of inaction in NSW will result in a reckoning as venues are closed, jobs are lost and our economic contribution to the city and state evaporates."

~ Farewell The Old 505 Theatre ~

I’ve decided to shut my award-winning music venue. It won’t be the last to close.

*** LOCAL ARTISTS & BUSINESSES HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE ***
..And here it is! A list of some of my favourite artists, creatives and independent businesses in NSW and Victoria. 2020 has been a hard year for many people and the arts community has been hit hard. Support a local business and someone's dream this holiday season by gifting friends and family presents from local Aussie businesses.

Being back in Sydney after extended periods of travel often feels strange. But the wonderful creative network that surrounds and supports me gives me so much love, life and inspiration. This is my little thank you to all of you that enrich my life with your art and your purpose.

Many of these businesses are rooted in sustainability, reuse and recycle culture, independent media and raw creativity. Reduce your environmental footprint by buying locally, boost your local arts economy and take money out of the hands of big business!

Please share with your networks and happy holiday season friends ❤

On June 8th Bedrock Collective, Yeah the Girls and curator Merindah Funnell came together to curate a day to share art, music and community. The day featured panels of First Nations elders discussing community in Redfern, young First Nations creatives on music and art, a film screening of There Goes our Neighbourhood, live music, light installations, performances and local DJs.

Thank you to everyone that came and was part of the community and conversation for the day. It was truly beautiful and one of our favourite shows we've helped create to date.

Special thanks to 107 Projects and Vivid Sydney for funding and supporting this event.

Here's the first half of the photos from Gen French Photography, more coming soon.
