Petrol drivers contribute through fuel excise, historically around 52.6 cents per litre and raising approximately $7.3 billion annually. EV drivers avoid this charge because they don’t buy petrol. ⛽💰

Victoria’s distance-based EV charge was struck down by the High Court in 2023, while NSW is reviewing its proposed per-kilometre charge. Other states, including Queensland, currently have no equivalent fee. ⚖️🛣️
