Introducing Unaloto Funaki, Tongan actor and writer making his directorial and producing debut with the short film Puletaha.

Born and raised in Aotearoa and is now based in Sydney.

From the villages of Pangaimotu and Toula in Vava’u 🇹🇴

Puletaha was born from the idea of identity and what it means to be considered “Tongan enough” especially for those who sit between cultures, languages, and expectations.

What I hope people take away from Puletaha, is that it doesn’t matter what people say about you, your identity isn’t defined by others and whether you feel fully connected to your culture or not, it doesn’t make you any less of who you are it’s already in you, its in your blood, and that’s enough.

Fun Fact: Puletaha was self-funded and made on little to no budget. It only happened because of the relationships, networks, and community support around me. 🎬

Advice: Don’t wait til’ you get funding or waiting to be picked to write or tell your story, if you really want it you’ll make it happen.
