Hi,
Glad that you can see how much work we have to put in, most people see a fireworks display and don’t realise that 90% of the work goes on behind the scenes and have no idea of the considerations that have to be undertaken.

Hi Keith
Thanks very much for the response. There is a lot of work that is needed to get this started so i will have a closer look at it today.
I just have 1 question to start with. We have the road closures in place on both sides of Dawson road. Can you have buildings in your exclusion zone? If so if Dawson St North was closed could you set up in there?
Rooftop firing are generally from very large roofed and/or very high structures as we have to calculate the trajectory of every shot from where it is being launched eg. Let’s say middle of Coles / Bunnings roof, from firing point to edge of roof, then from rooftop down to where the spectators are gathered maintaining the exclusion area required from surrounding buildings and structures (they can’t be higher than the building that you are firing off), we must take into consideration what is on the rooftop both on the firing and surrounding buildings eg. Air intakes, Air conditioners, hazardous nature of activities inside the building eg Garage, Gas storage, Paint volatile products etc. etc. etc.
Rooftops require tickets for: Working at heights, Safety Harness, Anchor Points, Licensed Cherry Picker Operator, Access for Cherry Picker with swinging Boom Arm (as loading of Fireworks onto rooftop cannot be carried out unless the loading cage can be swung over the roof) we are not allowed to pass across explosives (Drop contingency).
That’s not the end of it, where-ever we fire from not only do we have to consider the above but we also have to look at Trees and foliage flammability potential, hot fall-out (what could result from same), Wind conditions (leading up to and whilst we are firing), intrusion into exclusion area once firing commenced by Kids / Yobbo’s / Unauthorised personnel / Drunks / Louts, need I continue.
Then having calculated everything in the split second leading up to and actually pressing the ‘Fire Button’
KEEP IN MIND THAT WE HAVE TO PUT THIS ALL DOWN ON PAPER AND SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO ALL OF THE REGULATORY AUTHORITIES CONVINCING THEM THAT WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE DOING AND THAT WE HAVE TAKEN EVERY POSSIBLE CONTIGENCY INTO CONSIDERATION, OBTAINING DOCUMENTED PERMITS AND APPROVALS IN OUR ‘HOT LITTLE HANDS’ (TO BE ABLE TO PRODUCE SAME IF WE ARE AUDITED ON THE DAY/NIGHT BY ANY OF THE REGULATORY AUTHORITIES WHO MAY DECIDE TO DO SO).
“SO YOU THOUGHT THAT YOU HAD IT TOUGH”? and I HAVEN’T LISTED EVERYTHING THAT WE HAVE TO COMPLY WITH SUCH AS MEALS / DRINKS / REFRESHMENTS for attending staff as once we arrive on site we are not allowed to leave (got to have a good Bladder as well), IN SOME CASES ‘DRESS CODE’ - HELL I HAVEN’T EVEN STARTED TO COVER IT ALL’.
Cheers back
