Let's give them some feedback about what Brisbane should be like - what we like, don't like and how it could be different. Here's the link to the survey https://yoursay.brisbane.qld.gov.au/plan-your-brisbane

It has been 12 years since the council turned to residents to help shape Brisbane's future. It will now ask residents for help again.

Have you made you submission yet? Due TODAY 5pm Friday 2 June! We need to make our voice heard over the noise of developers! Spring Hill is being targeted for overdevelopment but the community is fighting back. The Spring Hill Community & Neighbours Group has made it easy for you to put in a submission. We want public space, green space, parks, access to sunlight, and planning and development that creates and supports liveable communities.

We're at it again and we have to move fast! We're asking the Queensland Government to say no to the Brisbane City Council pushing more roadway through Heritage Listed Victoria Park. Please sign and share this petition so we can quickly put the pressure on them to do the right thing.

Everyone loves parks. They provide us spaces to take the kids, walk the dog, do our exercise, or just lie in the sun. More than that, they provide places for our trees, homes for our wildlife and even help keep our air and water clean. Parks make us feel good and they help keep us healthy. So...

You will have seen plenty of material in your letterboxes about the election and who to vote for this Saturday (or at pre-poll right now). While the Spring Hill Community Group is an apolitical group and is not aligned to any party, we are strongly of the view that we should do everything in our power to argue for what is right for our community. That means having a considered view when it comes to who and which political party is likely to make good decisions on our behalf. Brisbane Residents United has asked candidates to respond to a series of questions relevant to planning and development, green space and so on that we will share with you as they become available. The Spring Hill Community Group fundamentally believes that big development lobbyists should not be prioritised over the local community or our local businesses. We will be guided by Brisbane Residents United's assessment of political commitments regarding planning and development, heritage and green space and share with you what we have found. Get ready for a rant…
We are tired of the collusion; tired of developers being put first; tired of the smoke and mirrors garbage. This is not ‘progress’.
Today Labor looks like they care about 'Bad Development'– but they have been busy advising people and community groups that "these issues are council matters only". What rot. We have spent years pushing for better outcomes and we know that it is both local and State governments that lead to these poor development decisions. And where were the Labor Councillors when LNP approved the Draft Spring Hill Neighbourhood Plan for release? Absolutely silent.
Both LNP and Labor accept developer donations. Both Parties fund their election campaigns on the back of this. Make no mistake this is a conflict of interest.
What happened in Highgate Hill today is a story that keeps playing out in our area. State Government needs to fix the loopholes and Council needs to stop taking advantage of them. We demand good development and we expect our local and State Government representatives to do the right things by us.

A packed house at the planning & development community meeting we held on 23 November. People are tired of local and state government's putting community interests last.
Guest presenters Phil Heywood, Karen Robinson and Peter Marquis-Kyle were there to help us understand the role of State and Local Government when it comes to decisions.

Spring Hill is definitely telling big developers to back off. Groups across Brisbane are calling for a ban on developer donations to political parties and for council and state government to start listening to the people. Come along to our community meeting tomorrow night - Monday 23 November. We'll have planning, community action, and heritage experts to provide some information, and you'll have an opportunity to share your thoughts on these issues. See details here https://www.facebook.com/events/686480918155043/

Brisbane Times reported 500 people came along to the event yesterday - certainly seemed that many were there. What a great outcome and good media coverage to get the message out that State and Local Governments need to do better by the people who live in these communities!
